LOL!! For a minute this was a RIP thread.

I'm gonna watch that game just to see how bad Pat is. He was awful the last time I heard him.

Obviously not. He still attends most Cowboy home games and does a weekly NFL commentary on Dallas radio.
He's The Voice of The NFL in my book.

I would assume Summerall would be doing the Cotton Bowl again this year as well--he did it last year.

And yes, Summerall has sounded nigh-comatose for about ten years now.  "Aikman...gives it to Emmitt...::pause, Emmitt goes 64 yards and breaks 6 tackles::...touchdown."

He has been a narrator on some  high school sports show on TV. I always hated him on NFL broadcasts. Thought he was boring as hell.

In his most recent years, Summerall has had many "great" moments, but when I think of his decline over the last decade plus, I always think about that Super Bowl between the Patriots and Rams.  It was supposed to be Pat's retirement game (though he was still on the same network the following year?), and marked his last game with Madden.

What stands out about him in that game is  his repeated calling of plays by . . . John Elway! According to Summerall, Elway was sacked and made two or three plays for the Patriots in that game. I could be remembering incorrectly, but I think Elway may have taken snaps for both teams, according to Summerall.

Does anyone else remember that? How he called Elway's name multiple times?

Not sure. Was too busy laughing at Madden. Tie game. Pats get the ball with 1:10 left. Madden lays out how the correct strategy is for the Pats to kill the last 1:10 and then try their luck in overtime - all while Brady takes the Pats down the field and gets the winning field goal.

Summerall and Tom Brookshier (sp?) were still the greatest NFL color/play by play team ever. Brookshier killed his career by describing the U. of Louiseville basketball team as having a collective IQ of 20 into a live mike around 1979 or so, but those of you too young to remember those guys really did miss a great team.

I think he has been doing at least 1 late season stinker the last 3 years, just to keep his consecutive years in broadcasting going on and I beleive  it usually occurs on a week where they have more games than regular crews.

Judging by his trips down memory lane here and on other boards, I'd guess a "young" 80.

Nuts to you.  I just happen to have a good recall of relatively valueless information is all and I happen to be a youthful 49.  Ask me who was in the curtain jerker on the card my father took me to see on my 12th birthday and I can tell you without a moment's hesitation it was Billy Red Lyons and Crazy Luke Graham.  Ask me my wedding anniversary or my sister's kid's birthdays and I might lag a bit more.

Go figure.
