On a baseball board I go to Biggio recently smashed Rice in voting 22-5. Who do you think was the better player Biggio or Rice? I say Biggio.

I voted Biggio.  A solid all around hitter, better fielder, more versatile and had some speed.  Rice better power hitter, Biggio had a lot longer career

How do you compare the two, though?  They have basically nothing in common.  Two different players, two different positions, two different eras.  It's like trying to compare, say, Duke Snider and Paul Molitor...you could conceivably make an argument for either, and the variables are virtually endless.

Any 2 hitters or position players can be compared.

I can compare an apple to a chair.  It doesn't necessarily mean it's meaningful.

That's a terrible analogy. What do a chair and apple have in common? Do they provide the same functions? A hitter's job is to get out there, get on base anyway they can and score runs. It doesn't matter if you're batting leadoff, cleanup, or in the #9 spot. Since when are players not compared because they play different positions? By the way Biggio and Rice's careers overlapped unlike Molitor and Snider.

Okay, fine, have it your way.  Who was better, Cy Young or A-Rod?  I say Cy Young, since he has an award named after him.

Why don't you start a different thread if you want to ask that question?

i'm not a fan of either guy, but i'll give it to rice due to the fact that he hit for power and drove in alot of runs. he was also pretty clutch if i remember.

I just remember Rice being spoken of reverentially by his peers.  While Biggio is well respected and all that, Rice was always considered a force.

If I was starting a team, I'd pick Biggio before Rice. Lead off hitters are harder to come by than power hitters.
