Just remember, for future reference, that ALL French-Canadian chicks are batshit insane.

These are the girls that stingmark talks about, Seriously. Buyer beware on ever dating one of them.

True - that is one of the main reasons I moved to Vancouver. B*tch can't make me take a freaking blood test. :X

Yeah I remembered this when I saw your post in the Tipping thread about working at Churchill's.  I completely forgot.  I'll get it up later today.

OK, so here's a recap.

Flight was only 55 minutes, which was a lot shorter than the 1 hour 45 minutes it said on my ticket but there were some pretty long delays Friday morning so we didn't get there until noon anyway.  I wanted to stay at the Westin but I was overruled and my friend wanted the Downtown Quality Inn.  I had concerns as soon as I pulled up.  It looked like a fleebag on the outside and it was across the street from a closed down strip club called Teasers.  The location was great though, half a block from Crescent and Catherine.  And the room wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  The woman at check-in somehow got me to upgrade for reasons I’m till confused about.  I have no idea what she was talking about but she was saying we’d be better on a different floor and either thought we were degenerates who would be making a lot of noise and bringing hookers back to the room or was trying to keep us away from that type.  I’m still not sure which and I should probably be offended either way.  She was just babbling and I wound up pending an extra $10 or so a night for a different floor with a balcony that we never intended to use.  It was my own fault, I should’ve just said no.

The first thing we did was have lunch at Dundee’s Bar & Grill where we were served by a really cute waitress which started a theme of incredibly attractive service women in Montreal. ]
We then went to the bank to exchange money but they said we’d get a better rate at an exchange place and there was one on every corner.  I wasn’t sure how that would work and I was paranoid about getting raped at these places, but it wasn’t too bad.  It was a rate of around $1.04 Canadian for every American dollar at most places and the fees didn’t seem ridiculous.  After exchanging our money we went to Mont Royal because it was an absolutely gorgeous day of almost 60 and I figured (correctly) that it would be the best day of the trip.  We didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into though because we did a LOT of walking and it bordered on hiking and mountain climbing at times.  There was a pretty long walk and a ridiculously steep incline as we approached it and that was before we even got there.  We managed to miss most of the stairs and official entrances I think and just followed a side trail up the mountain (technically it’s a hill although it was originally called a mountain but it sure as hell felt like a mountain to me anyway).  We managed to get onto the paved area eventually and walked around towards the top a little more comfortably after that.  There was a little shack with the history of Mont Royal on top and then we walked back down, again skipping the stairs and going down an insanely steep portion of a trail where we almost fell several times.  We got a little lost when we came down the mountain and wandered around for a very long time before getting back to familiar territory, so we saw a lot of Montreal.  We passed through the Latin Quarter and a residential area and I think it was our first of many long treks down Saint Catherine Street.

It was still early but we basically just rested at the hotel and napped for a bit before going out. That was a theme of the trip as we kept getting really early starts on the nightlife.  The city was already dead due to the economy and maybe the time of year, but trying to party at 7:00 – 8:00 PM didn’t help.  We often had nothing else to do though.  We went to Churchill’s/Winnie’s across the street for some drinks and then to Chez Paree a few blocks from there on Stanley.  When the seater asked where we’d like to be seated I said the stage, which presented a problem.  In Canada there are $1 and $2 coins instead of bills, so we had no idea what the protocol was at Canadian strip clubs.  This also led to the famous “It is customary…” lines that we received several times in Montreal.  The seater told us it was customer to tip him $5.  When my friend asked about the coins, the waitress told him it was customary to leave the girls $5 because they might not see the coins.  That’s total bullshit I’m sure.  There was almost no one in there anyway and no one was leaving anything at the stage.  It was too early and the city was dead anyway.  We got a dance each and went back to the hotel and were in bed before midnight.  I had been up since 6:30 AM but still, that was an early first night in Montreal.

On Saturday I think I had breakfast at Famous Dunn’s.
We then went to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.  When we came out it was pouring.  We knew all along that Saturday it was going to rain and I even brought a small umbrella, but of course it was back in the room.  I ran back to get it and my friend bought a shitty overpriced one that broke in 2 hours.  We then had a some beers at Brasseurs, which was exactly like Heartland Brewery in Union Square.  We were there for a while and met 4 older people tossing back shots like crazy and we had some fun with them.  We then looked for the Underground City in the rain and I’m still not sure if we ever found it.  If we did, it’s just a mall.  But I have no idea if what we found was really it or maybe just a part of it or maybe not it at all.  We asked a few people for the entrance and never really got a straight answer.  We weren’t planning on shopping anyway so we just walked around.  We walked around a lot!  My feet were killing me between that and the hike the day before.

Saturday night was UFC 105 on SpikeTV.
While we were coming back from Mont Royal I had noticed that Le Gentleman’s Choice on St. Denis was playing it and I wanted to go there.  My friend thought it would be a bad idea to sit in a strip club for that long watching TV and came across a bar that was playing it instead.  Of course he didn’t remember exactly where.  We took a cab (one of our few) and found it but the line was out the door.  It was the only place that was busy the whole weekend (it was a really small place though).  There was a karaoke bar a few doors up with the same owners that they sent us to instead.  There was a weird vibe at that place and a weird mix of people.  A dead ringer for Fit Finlay was at the bar.  I mean he looked EXACTLY like him and even called someone “sunshine” (more William Regal’s line but close enough).  The UFC show was on tape delay from England and apparently they played the live feed 5 hours earlier and they weren’t sure if they were going to play it again (after it started and we were told they’d be playing it).  They switched to a hockey game during the introductions for the first fight.  That’s when I started talking to the bouncer about whether or not they’d be airing it.  Well they did switch back over and it turned out that he was training for in MMA.  He was a really nice guy and loved talking about himself and his training.  He said he was turning pro in 6 months and hoped to be in the UFC in a year and a half.  I would’ve called bullshit but he showed me his camera phone where he had pics of himself with Georges St. Pierre, Jerome LeBanner, David Loiseau, and Denis Kang (who fought on that show and lost).  Basically anyone who was the least bit French-Canadian, he knew and trained with.  He said his name was Owner (I assume it’s spelled that way and I didn’t understand his last name) so I’ll be watching for him.  In the main event Randy Couture was handed one of the worst decision victories I’ve ever seen over Brandon Vera.  Highway robbery.  After that, we went to SuperSexe, which a friend had recommended for its lesbian shows.  It was a much better time than at Chez Paree and the girls stuck my face in her crotch as they were eating each other's pussy.

On Sunday the weather cleared up and we spent the day in Old Montreal.
This was the part that most seemed like a different country.  We walked through Chinatown to get there and then Old Montreal had a Paris feel to it with very narrow unpaved streets and small shops.  After walking around for a bit we had to come out of Old Montreal because we didn't really see anyplace to eat and we came across a Tim Horton’s and my lunch consisted of 3 chocolate glazed donuts and a Pepsi.  I needed to go to Tim Horton's at least once while in Canada but I didn't realize it was just a fucking Dunkin Donuts.  What is Canada's obsession with that place?  There's nothing in it.  We then went back into Old Montreal before walking back to the hotel.  This had to be another couple of miles that we walked.  It was still early in the day and I wanted to get a later start for the nightlife, so I needed another afternoon activity.  I wanted to do a guided tour but my friend didn’t seem into it.  I would’ve went alone but I couldn’t find any information on one.  Instead we went to the Montreal Casino.  Within an hour my friend had dropped $200 at craps.  [size=I just about broke even on $100 playing Blackjack but I also won $50 off of $5 at the slots.  Not bad.

Sunday night we tried to bar and strip club hop but it was the deadest I’ve ever seen any city. ]There were a bunch of people outside of one building and the rumor was there was a Backstreet Boy in there, but I have no idea if that’s true or which one.  We tried 3 bars with virtually no one in there and then went to Wanda’s.  Wanda’s was the cheapest strip club we went to at only $8 a dance and it had friendly girls, but other than me and my friend there were 3 other customers.  One girl was just bored as hell and sat with us for 45 minutes and got yelled at by another girl for doing that.  I got dances from 2 different girls and had an OK time.  We then got went to another one, I don’t remember the name, just a small walk-up.  There were 2 guys working for 2 different clubs right next to each other who were trying to pull guys in off the street.  We talked to the other guy first and he yelled “Traitor” at us when we went to the other place.  It was pretty funny but these places were really just so dead.  I didn’t even get a dance at that place but my friend did.  And that was the last night we spent in Montreal.

Monday morning I walked 2 blocks from the hotel to the Bell Centre and took pics of the Canadiens monuments and plaques outside.  It’s pretty cool how accessible it is unlike Monument Park at Yankee Stadium.  Then we checked out, had lunch at Dunn’s, cashed out, and went to the airport.

I had some French words that have been drilled in my head and I'll never forget – bienvenue, bonsoir, rue, arret, and sortie to name just a few.  I
could actually see myself learning the language somewhat if I spent a year there.  Well maybe just to read if not speak the language.  Everyone spoke English for the most part and there was no rudeness towards English-speakers at all that i could see.  Everyone was very friendly.  The economy was just so bad though, and there's a homeless person on every corner and they're aggressive and chase you down the street.  It's 10 times worse than in NY, at least since Giuliani had all the homeless killed.

Anyway, not a spectacular trip but fun nonetheless.  I'd go back.
