Loved it as a kid but the new version looks horrible. I'll give it a shot though.

Probably not.
As a number of you know, my background is in music composition. The composer who scored the original mini-series, the late Joe Harnell, was one of my mentors. I wrote a 200-page analysis on Harnell's score to V when I was studying abroad at the University of Bristol in England. I also got to know Kenneth Johnson through him. Out of a certain amount of loyalty to them, I'm not sure I'll be able to bring myself to watch it.

It'd be like me saying that since my father died on Thanksgiving, I cant bring myself to ever eat turkey again.

Nah, he's not an idiot. Not on this or on anything else, for that matter.
I see your point Heretic...but, I think I'd watch it to see what's been done, as a student of that sort of thing, to compare/contrast. Might raise your appreciation for what your mentor did even further.

I ll record it. Was a big fan of both Mini series and then the Series. Before this was anncouced Kenneth Johnson was trying to get a TV movie staring the stars of the 80's show. It would take place 20 years after the first mini series. Acting like the 2nd series or the series never happened. He did make a novel of his script called V The Next Generation.
It won't last wrong with the Time slot it has. Tuesdays at 8pm is murder. Its going against the #1 show on TV since the Season started, and the best show on TV IMO NCIS.Last edited on Sun Oct 18th, 2009 01:30 pm by bpickering

I see the point that you're trying to make, except that it breaks down due to the fact that I don't owe it to anybody to watch the new version. If I was a brain surgeon and I said I couldn't operate and save that boy's life on Thanksgiving because my dad died on Thanksgiving, then you would have a point. But whether or not I choose to watch some television program, or ever choose to eat turkey on Thanksgiving for that matter, that's my personal choice and has no ramifications for anybody else. I don't even own a Nielson box. You're usually a sharp guy, but your point is pretty absurd on this one.Last edited on Sun Oct 18th, 2009 02:50 pm by Heretic

Now this is a good point. Yeah, I probably will at some point, down the road. Harnell only died a few years ago and he was very important to me.
So some time down the road I'll probably Netflix it, but I'm not in a particular hurry. Actually, J's suggestion isn't bad at all--- I might write a paper comparing the two scores, eventually.Last edited on Sun Oct 18th, 2009 02:57 pm by Heretic

E! Online rated the pilot episode "on a scale of 1 to 10, we give it an 11. V is the best pilot we've seen in, well, forever. The website Seat42F rated the pilot episode an A+, applauding its cast and effects and naming it one of the best pilots in years. USA Today's Robert Bianco put V on his list of the top ten new shows, stating that the remake is well-made and "quickly establishes its own identity."[King Features' entertainment reporter Cindy Elavsky calls V: "the best new show on television, by far. The special effects are feature-film quality; the writing is intelligent and time-relevant; and the acting is first-rate. The first five minutes alone will hook you for the entire season.
It is only on for 4 weeks then it will be back on in March.

Heretic, I think Ports was a little brusque but it's still a really odd opinion. If they were abusing the original score or something, then fair enough, but I'd presume they're using an entirely new score?
It'll be "V" in name only, with the merest lip service paid to the original, like BSG ,so because you knew someone who worked on the original series shouldn't really matter much.
