I don't think we've done a discussion just live albums, so I'll start off with a couple of my favorites:
Live at Leeds, The Who - A great set from the Who's late 60s, pre Who's Next period. Played all of Tommy (in the bonus disc) and tons of the early hits. Band sounded great. Great cover of Young Man's Blues.
Exit Stage Left, Rush - All the versions of this album I've heard are a bit muffled, but it's still great. From right after Moving Pictures, I believe, and an incredible set that featrues some great cuts: Tom Sawyer, Xanadu, Limelight, Closer to the Heart, etc. Band sounds amazing.
Live Shit Binge and Purge (Mexico City), Metallica - James is a bit off his rocker, but Newsted show's why he's missed from modern 'tallica. Great cuts up to the Black Album, and lots of odd ball spoutings by James. A pretty cool version of Dazed and Confused by Kirk and Jason, too.

Off the top pf my head and in completely random order.
No Nukes - It's a triple live album featuring just about everybody who was relevant in 1979 when it was made, but Springsteen & E Street's cuts steal the show, even on vinyl.
Last Waltz - Scorcese's film was great, but don't overlook what an amazing night of music that was. I guess I like ensemble albums.
Kiss Alive - I am no real Kiss fan, but everybody I knew had this when I was in high school. Sounded great even on 8-track through crappy blown out car speakers.
Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East - recorded before Duane's death. If you made me name a No. 1, this might be it.
Lou Reed Rock and Roll Animal - Not everybody's cup of tea probably, but I loved this album.
Niel Young Live Rust - I still listen to this and still really love it. Oddly enough, it's teh only Neil Young I listen to.
If I could remember the name of The Ramones live album, I'd list it here too.

I really enjoy the "Instant Live" CD that I bought after a 2006 Allman Brothers show at Lakewood Amphitheatre (now Hi-Fi Buys-corporate bullshit!) in Atlanta. I'd like to get more of these for some of the shows I've been to.
Also like:
Rush "Exit Stage Left" and "All the World's a Stage", CSN&Y "Four Way Street",
Hendrix "Woodstock" (which features the only really complete version of "Message To Love", my favorite song, even though it's pretty sloppy overall),
Hendrix "Live at Berkley May 30 1970(I think that's the date),
AC/DC "If You Want Blood You've Got It"
Deep Purple "Made In Japan"-their peak in 1972
Grateful Dead "Europe '72" and "Fillmore 1971" as well as about a million other shows I've heard/had made for me by my vast amount of Deadhead friends. Shit, even an attorney I hired turned out to be a Deadhead.
Kiss Alive II has sentimental appeal, and I love "Shock Me"
Lynyrd Skynyrd "One More From The Road" is a classic
Rolling Stones "Definitive Brussels" is a bootleg from 1972 that kicks ass and is their best sound, IMO. I like "Get Your Ya Ya's out" as well but it is missing the best tune from the "Gimme Shelter" soundtrack in the title song. How they fucked that one up is beyond me!

Great album, but my all time favorite live album is a little known double album from Lou Reed from 1978 I believe called "Take No Prisoners."
It was recorded at The Bottom Line in NYC. This is Lou in rare form with lots of interaction with the crowd.
It's been my favorite since I've been like five years old when my Dad used to play it for me(without my Mom or anyone else around as he uses some "dirty" language in it lol). I have loved it ever since and I finally found it on CD about ten years ago now at Newbury Comics in Boston.
I highly recommend this album to any and all Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground fans. Just a kick ass version of Street Hassle on here to. I can't say enough good things about this album. In fact I'm gonna pull it out and listen to it tonight.

That is a great album. Lou explaining how "Walk on the Wild Side" came from him trying to write a musical is hysterical.
It's not easy to find, but this live Lou Reed album was recorded in 1969 with the original VU and has the best version of "Heroin" I think they ever did.
