I was checking out SNL from last this morning and this group "Sleigh Bells" was the musical guest.

WTF?

They sounded even worse on the show last night, but come on man, what in the hell is this shit?

I must be getting old.

I agree, pure garbage. It might have been a half decent song if they didn't seem to insert random notes with their instruments in the song.

The worst part of all?

A) someone actually bought their music

B) someone actually thinks thats music

Most current music is a steaming pile of dogshit to begin with. I dont even listen to fm radio anymore, bc the music's so bad. Hip hop is just awful, rock sucks, indie sucks, etc.

That was just awful

The first time I heard Fall Out Boy live on Letterman or something, I thought to myself, "Now I understand what my parents were must've thought when they heard me listening to Metallica for the first time."

There's good music still being made, but you have to go out of your way to find it. Before Christmas I was searching YouTube and found some great new songs and bands on SubPop's channel.

Some of the newer rock/metal bands are really good.  In the past year, I've particularly gotten into Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, and Within Temptation.  Most of them will never make a dime though (well I guess Avenged has some popularity).

Avenged Sevenfold? Are they not the band that did Edge's entrance song he used the last few years of his career? That's not a bad tune really.

That's Alter Bridge, another of my favorite newish bands.  I've seen Alter Bridge live in concert 3 times and they are phenomenal, and their lead singer Myles Kennedy is also Slash's singer on his solo stuff and can do all the GNR and Velvet Revolver stongs perfectly.  Just an incredible talent.

I agree, but even the stuff from the past had some type of tune or melody to it.  That shit last night was god awful.

I quite like Sleigh Bells...but this is not as good as their debut album.

The thing is, our parents hated our music because it was noisy, difficult, challenging, confrontational, controversial.

We hate current music because it's NOT noisy, difficult, challenging, confrontational, controversial...indeed it's our parents' music.  In some cases literally - boring-as-fuck covers-by-numbers.  One term I've seen for it is New Beige...

Someone called it the Saffron Syndrome, after the straight-laced daughter character in Absolutely Fabulous; it's rebellion via being mainstream.

Yeah, there is still good music being made, but I just cannot understand what appeal that music last night has in regards to the music itself.  It was bad.  Even music I did not like, had some musical quality to it...this stuff I could not understand what the appeal is.  I am getting old.

You mean on the 'Slash's Snakepit' albums? Would he have been their singer 12 years ago? I saw 'Slash's Sankepit' open for 'AC/DC' back in 2000 at the new Boston Garden. I don't know anything about them and don't listen to them. As far as I remember the only G'N'R song they did was 'Mr. Brownstone' (or at least the only one I recognized), and I was pretty bummed about that.

I can assure you that my parents find no tune or melody in Metallica or most of the stuff I grew up listening to.  The Beatles is as hardcore as they get, most of what they listen to is Nancy Sinatra, Frankie Vallie, Tony Bennett, Kenny Rogers, and Ray Coniff.  All they hear is noise when they listen to post-'60s rock.

No, not Snakepit, that's a much older project.  Slash came out with a solo album 2 years ago just called "Slash" with a different singer on every song, including Ozzy, Lemmy, Alice Cooper, and other big names.  Kennedy does a track on the album and was his singer for the tour supporting it, while simultaneously doing an Alter Bridge tour.  It was a crazy schedule.  In May, the second Slash album comes out with Kennedy singing on all the tracks with a tour to follow later this year.  Snakepit is different, I think they released 2 albums with 2 different singers, neither as good as Kennedy.  But yes, on the live tour Kennedy sings a couple of Snakepit songs too.  He even did one Alter Bridge song on that tour.

Edit:

I'll just post the set list I have for the show Slash w/Kennedy did in Sep. 2010.  It'll give you a better idea.  The ones that aren't covers are the original songs off of the "Slash" album.

1. Ghost
2. Mean Bone (Slash's Snakepit cover)
3. Nightrain (Guns n' Roses cover)
4. Sucker Train Blues (Velvet Revolver cover)
5. Back From Cali
6. Civil War (Guns n' Roses cover)
7. Rocket Queen (Guns n' Roses cover)
8. Do It For the Kids (Velvet Revolver cover)
9. We're All Gonna Die (w/Todd Kerns on vocals)
10. Nothing to Say
11. Starlight
12. Just Like Anything (Slash's Snakepit cover)
13. Watch This (instrumental)/Godfather Theme/Slash guitar solo
14. Sweet Child O' Mine (Guns n' Roses cover)
15. Rise Today (Alter Bridge cover)
16. Slither (Velvet Revolver cover)

Encore:

17. By the Sword
18. My Michelle (Guns n' Roses cover)
19. Paradise City (Guns n' Roses cover)
