It's good to see a Dad who cares enough to do something about his kid acting the fool, some may see this as going too far or being too dramatic, I think it's great.

Yeah because national embarrassment always leads to better grades.  Good parenting would've been not to let it get to the point where your kid is flunking out in the first place.  This is typical Dr. Phil style pop parenting which is why so many kids are so fucked up.

So, how many children have you raised?

Also, tell me what you would have done to make sure it didn't get to the point where the kid was flunking out?

I'm not asking to be argumentive, I don't know your personal history, however as a parent who has raised 2 kids and does know a little something about what it takes to be a parent, I applaud the guy, and can safely bet that the kid will improve his grades and his conduct in school.

Sometimes as a parent you have to find out what works, seems that even by the kids standards it's working.

It's true, I wasn't there.  Always the best argument.

Im with you on this one, good job to the dad. In this day & age, you cant look @ a kid wrong w/o some group or cps on your ass & dont even think of disciplining your kid in any way. They'll call the state & you could lose your kid, or worse the kid could try to(gasp)sue. Its a
fucked up society now, where there is no more discipline, every child
gets a ribbon/reward for something(win or lose), and every child is an
"angel". You have butthurt "entitled" parents, who try to tell everyone else how to raise kids, but get pissy when someone suggests how to
raise theirs. The whole "timeout" bullshit, is the biggest bunch of horseshit ever created. Thats Dr. Phil type of bullshit.

Nossir, Srossi, I wasn't trying to showboat or be argumentive or try to claim that because you haven't raised up kids (I am assuming that to be the case),that you didn't have a right to your opinion.

I was trying to ask you a serious question, not trying to be like Stingmark and start an argument for the sake of arguing or pissing someone off.

( edit:I was typing this when Stingmark was typing his reply, didn't see it at first, I was NOT talking about Stingy trying to start anything here, just a tendency between Stingy provoking Srossi)

I wasn't there either or know the whole story, but it seemed like a damn good idea that worked, and it seemed like for once we read about a dad who gave a rats ass about his kid and his future and was willing to do something about it.

I was just fucking around Katook, I can't pass up on opportunity to make a Percy joke when it presents itself.  I do not have kids but I am not planning on taking the "public shame" approach when I do, and I don't know any experts in this field who would, including my fiancee who has a Masters in Early Childhood Development and will be pursuing her PhD in a related field.

Hmmm... I think others here are more guilty of this than you claim I am. Btw, everyone here pisses someone else off in some way. If you feel the way you just described, then have at it. It's a message board, not life or death. Like wrestling, stop taking the shit so seriously.

Damn Stingy, we're both typing at the same time, I just edited my post explaining things.

I never take message boards or internet disagreements get personal with me or worry too much about them, I just have noticed in the past that you like to say stuff to piss off Srossi, which is fine by me I laugh when you 2 have a go of it. Just wanted to communicate with Srossi that I wasn't trying to goad him into an internet pissing contest but was asking a serious question.

Sorry if it offended you or if you took it personally.

Also, just for shits and giggles I want you to know that I picked your shitty ass Michigan Wolverines to do me a big favor and beat the UNC tarheels in the NCAA's, and would even lower my standards to root for them (michigan).

Can't speak for anyone else but I didn't take it that so don't worry.  But I will comment on this part that I just saw:

I wasn't there either or know the whole story, but it seemed like a damn good idea that worked, and it seemed like for once we read about a dad who gave a rats ass about his kid and his future and was willing to do something about it.

First of all we don't know if this worked and likely won't for a year or 2 minimum so I think you're jumping the gun quite a bit.  Let's see his grades in the long run and let's see if 6 months from now he stabs a kid who teases him about being disgraced on the Internet and winds up in jail.  Secondly, to me this is the ultimae "LOOK AT ME, I'M PARENTING!!!!" attention whoring and not the mark of a dad who cares.  A dad who cares will sit with his kid and do his homework with him every night for as long as it takes and makes sure that it's getting done, and dealing with the tantrums and the fights and enforcing groundings and other punishments.  This dad spent a hell of a lot less time and effort pulling a publicity stunt because he wants a YouTube high five or something.  Good parents don't need Yahoo posters to validate their parenting.

Speaking only for myself, I am willing to extend the benefit of doubt to this parent and have to think he had tried other ways to reach his son without success before resorting to this.  This smacks as a last resort sort of measure and I would hate to think it was the first thing he tried to get his son's attention.  I could always be wrong in this.

Lol, you just contradicted yourself. If you "never take anything serious" on message boards as you claim, you wouldnt have posted orherwise. You do get upset, thats obvious. You "laugh at it" but then turn around & apparently post that you have issues with it?. Im not going to continue pointless back & forth w/ you. Im not "offended", nor did I take it personally. I just had to comment on something you were obviously wrong about. I dont get "offended" easily, nor do I take much personally. Maybe you should heed your own advice? I agreed w/ your initial post, as I agreed w/ the post, not to say something just b/c Rossi responded. Stop trying to stir up shit. Not everything has to be a pissing contest.

Im just going to continue to lol @ how you're trying to spin this now.

Rock on!

With some kids, it doesn't matter what you do to get the to study, if they simply do not try in the school portion of classes, you will not pass.

I make my kids do all their homework first thing when they get home, and I make sure it is completed, but if its subjects I may not know much on, I wouldn't know if they simply wrote shit down to get me off their backs about the homework or actually did it.  But even doing that, every so often I will get a phone call from a teacher saying Matt, Steve, Mike, Austin, or Ryan is in danger of falling below the 70% level(the private school does not consider a D passing unlike the public schools) because they simply turned in blank tests or drew all over the tests because they did not understand the subject, and were afraid to say anything for fear of being called stupid by classmates(which is a crock I agree).
