I've been threatened a few times in some hospital suits, but it's always gone nowhere. I carry a personal $1million dollar policy, and the hospital also covers things on their end. Basically most of these suits go nowhere at work since unless they can prove overt negligence most of the shit that goes wrong is covered in the consent for surgery form you sign.

I've never been sued, but I'm actually suing someone for the first time. My truck was parked in front of my friend's place and it was hit by a 12 year old girl who took her aunt's car without permission. No insurance for them and I have collision. Truck was hit in October, first court appearance was December and finally have a trial date May 9th.

Came close - Ran over a kid on his bike who crossed the intersection while I had a green, He was completely in the wrong but his parents were very well off, while I had all of 4 grand to my name at the time. Bought him a new bike and that was the end of it.

Karma being what it is, he's facing some serious jailtime for dealing coke with the daughter of a very famous local area politician.

I fell asleep at the wheel and hit a truck on I-95 in 1990. I don't remember a thing about it. I hit him and then apparently went straight up in the air as my head tried to go through the roof of the car. I always assumed it was that "bump on the head" being why I didn't remember anything.

Years later the guy sued the insurance company. I got to meet the guy and see that he wasn't hurt, etc so that was cool.

At the deposition they asked me about the events of that night with my answers all being "I don't know" , "I don't recall" and "Oh I'm not sure"

Then they hypnotized me (!!!!!!) to get what happened out of me. I don't remember being under hypnosis nor do I know what I said.

They hypnotized you?  How can that be any more legal than forcing you to take truth serum before you testify?  never heard of that before...  wow.

Been sued 5 times. Once for a car accident when I was 23. She waited a long time. At the trial, she was awarded 22 thousand. Basically, she waited 7 months before even seeing a Doctor after her initial visit. They wanted to settle with my ins. firm for 6 figures but the ins. firm lawyer wasn't buying. A pain in the butt because I had to be at all the stuff when I had school which was important to me. She gasped, loudly, when the $ amount was read in court.

A kid fell out of my tree in 1998. Settled out of court for 5k. Sued 3x over business stuff. Twice I won the suits and 1 time I paid 14K on a settlement. It was just taking too much of my time and I decided the cost was going to be more than their last offer. Their first offer was 50K, so I did better by drawing it out.

I have a ton of insurance. I carry an umbrella policy for $1.5m for amounts above my auto and home and the coverage is much more extensive. When I sold the business, many tried to talk me into getting a high deductible health policy for my family. It didn't feel right. I paid $1200 for awesome coverage which is now $1600 a month. Good thing. My eye problems have cost a ton of dough. Of course, the bastards tried to say it wasn't covered at first but they relented.

When you need it, it absolutely is.
