...and they were incredible. They are one of my all-time favorite bands and I've seen them in the past. However, I usually came away disappointed in how sloppy their live shows were. Last time I saw them was like twenty-some years ago, so I figured they would be that much worse.

I was dead wrong.

Robin Zander was pitch perfect all night. The band were tighter than I've ever heard them. They played a killer set list. It was one of the best live performances I've ever seen - by any band.

Here's the set list.

Hello There
Elo Kiddies
Big Eyes
He's a Whore
On Top of the World
Ain't That a Shame
Way of the World
The House is Rockin'
She's Tight
If You Want My Love
Need Your Love
That 70s Song
Borderline
I Know What I Want
The Flame
I Want You to Want Me
Dream Police
California Man
Surrender
Auf Wiedersehen
Goodnight

For those who don't know, Rick Neilsen's son Daxx has been the group's drummer for the past few years. I know it might be blasphemous to say, but I think he is an improvement over Bun. He was great.

Anyway, everything about the night was off the charts. The ticket was cheap ($20.00), beers were only $3.00, and they crowd was older, so there no asshole behavior.

CT are one of those bands who seems to always be touring, so if you have never seen them it's probably by choice. But, if you get the opportunity, next time they are near you I would strongly urge you to check them out.

I saw them live last year and I was kinda bummed that Bun E. Carlos wasn't there. Great set although a bit too heavy with their newer stuff. I've seen them in concert about 6 times and the only one I was really disappointed in was back in the early 1980's right after Tom Petersson left. I think it was only about the 3rd or 4th show with his replacement and everybody just seemed off that night.

Cool thing about CT is they don't do the same setlist for every show. They mix it up every night, and last night we were treated to an awesome one.

Great review TXM, thanks for posting it. I completely agree with you about Dax. The kid is a monster and has more chops than Bun did. Zander is a physical freak and sounds the same now as he did 30 years ago and he goes balls out every single show. CT really seems to shine when they headline these club shows. Much more ambitious set lists and changing it up often. I saw them twice last year opening for Aerosmith, once in California, and once in New York. They were kind of disappointing to me at both shows because they put in a workman like performance. I've seen Trick going back to 1977 and they rarely disappoint but on those two Aero shows they seemed like they were phoning it in. Glad to see they still got the stuff.

In the past few years I've seen them headline twice, I've seen them open for Aerosmith once, and I've seen a really fun and small Zander solo show. Haven't been disappointed. A much better live band than studio band, always have been.
