In the Monday Wars era when more than one super fan found a level of fame with newz sites regurgitating the latest Observer and Torch headlines and doing snarky Raw and Nitro recaps, a few names stood out in a much smaller internet universe. Al Isaacs, Rick Scaia, Mike Samuda, Scott Keith, and Chris Hyatte were well known. So was Christopher Robin Zimmerman, or CRZ.

I hadn't heard or thought about him in many years. Then he turned up on the ballot for Mayor of Minneapolis in today's election as one of the many fringe candidates, as an unendorsed Libertarian. It's the same guy. He even copped to his love of wrestling when I checked a profile to see if it was him. I don't recall him ever saying he was from here in his recap days and think he moved to Minneapolis later.

It'd be an understatement to say he had no chance of winning. No non Democrat will be Mayor of Minneapolis again in my lifetime. The incumbent was standing down and a longtime city council member won. In a ranked choice system, with 118 of 119 precincts reporting, Zimmerman has 168 first place votes for 0.21%, 434 second place votes for 0.63%, and 421 third votes for 0.70%.

That's crazy as hell. His "the-w" message board is still active, and I believe he still moderates it. I had no clue he'd moved to Minneapolis--CRZ always struck me as a NoCal-guy to the end.

That name rings a bell. Those early days of the IWC seem so long ago. Barely remember most of it.

I loved those recaps, and would occasionally dip into them for laughs years later.

I preferred Mark Rickwalders recaps.

I remember CRZ fondly. When I first found the internet in 1997, I followed Wrestleline and the Online Onslaught with Rick Scaia, CRZ, and all those guys on a daily basis. I loved the site, then CBS bought Wrestleline to incorporate into Sportsline. I hope Scaia made good money on it. Those were pretty cool days to be a fan, I must say.

I remember Mike Samuda too...micasa! All those names. Those were good times to be a fan. I couldn't care less if they were taking stories from Keller or Meltzer, because they were good at it.

We got the initial beginnings of the internet at my college back in 1993 with the old RSPW message board. Anyone remember the name Sean Ryan? He was an antagonist back then, but seemed to know his shit. At one point I taped Raw for him for @ a year, but then he just ended up dropping off the face of the IWC.

That 1996-99 era of pro wrestling on the internet was a lot of fun. It was also a happy coincidence that the product got very good just as this new medium was opening up. Things were already getting a bit stale by 1999 though. Too many bad sites were up and running while the pioneers were starting to fall off to various degrees.

MiCasa and News From Dayton were my entries into the pro wrestling internet. I liked both sites and thought they did a good job of spreading news since Dave and Wade weren't on the net as well as speaking with a fan's voice without Monday morning quarterbacking too much. I think Rick Scaia still has his Online Onslaught site although its influence is a fraction of what it was once upon a time.

Sean Ryan was from Alaska IIRC. Scalia was cool. I remember meeting him at an ECW show. Scherer kinda got his start through covering ECW too.

Anyone remember http://ddtdigest.com/? Still archived to this very day? It was a great site to visit since we got very little WCW in the UK. Gotta dig the 1997 layout.
