Aren't these energy drinks going to price themselves out at some point? $3 for a 8.4 oz can. Is there a magic ingredient in there that costs alot?

It is more expensive because they can charge for it and get it. Red Bull really kick started the energy drink craze. To many folks it is still the king of those drinks and its name sells it.

According to their website (http://www.redbull.com/en/browse-all-athletes), they sponsor at least 570 athletes in a number of different sports. Red Bull is sponsoring at least 63 events from now thru the end of December (http://www.redbull.com/en/browse-all-events) Red Bull has its own record label, music recording studio, and television studio / production facility (http://www.redbull.com/en/music) There is probably even more stuff that Red Bull is involved in that would take more time than just a quick glance of their website. Why does it cost so much? It costs a lot of money to sponsor all of this stuff. It markets itself as more than just an energy drink - it promotes itself as a lifestyle. As long as consumers continue to buy it, the cost will keep escalating.

Googled it and found an estimate that the production cost might be about 20 cents. They do a lot of sports "advertisement", namely Formula 1 and footy, where it will be interesting if they will abandon Red Bull Salzburg as they somehow managed to fuck up getting into the UEFA Champions League for the seventh consecutive time. I would guess that the Champions League should have been their goal in the first try, a must in the second try and last year I think they even lost out to a team from Liechtenstein. Needless to say this lack of success is one of the biggest sports busts I can think of. RB Leipzig is now in the second division in Germany so they might virtually abandon Salzburg.

The only time I ever had a Red Bull was as a mixer when that was all the rage. Thought it tasted awful and that was the end of that. I guess if you mix it with the alcohol though the upper/downer interaction is supposed to help you drink longer, which is attractive to the college crowd and those trying to date rape girls.

I don't drink this stuff often, but of the caffeine / energy drinks, I think it's the best. I also purchase it the least due to it's high cost.

I sell a LOT of energy drinks. I'm in charge of all of the products we sell in our vending markets and I have tried just about all the major energy drinks out there. As far as "kick" Red Bull is one of the worst. Other than the caffeine and sugar it's pretty weak. Monster and NOS are pretty good because they give you a TON more vitamin B which is where a lot of the energy boost comes from. Same with 5 Hour Energy, LOADED with Vitamin B..actually all of them have more than your body can actually absorb, but still. BTW, they charge so much because they can. Like I said, Red Bull is actually not that great for energy but they were smart and marketed it to perfection, just like 5 Hour Energy. I actually cut a deal with our 5 Hour Energy rep last week to restock all our markets with it, we had switched to Coke's "Fuel in a Bottle" back when Coke was giving us rebates but they aren't now so eff em. When we went to the Fuel stuff it literally sold half as much as 5 Hour Energy did even though it's basically the EXACT same stuff. And the reason both sells for so much is because the cost for the guys that's selling it is so high. Cost on average for 5 Hour and Redbull is about $1.50 per unit. Now the fact that Redbull charges that for an 8 ounce can when that's the same cost for Monster, NOS, Full Throttle etc on a 16 ounce can shows even more how brilliant these guys were at marketing. It's pretty amazing..

Oh yeah, let me add that the people that buy it are just creatures of habit, they but Redbull and Monster just off the name which has always amazed me. NOS is probably the best out there right now, I try to sell it in our markets, nope, people still want Monster and Redbull. Last year I tried to sell this:![]() Faygo puts it out, the cost on it is around .75 cent a can. I put it in our markets for $1.69 a can or 2 for $3.00. It tastes pretty freaking good, has the same stuff in it that Monster has, gives you just as good a boost. Went over like a lead balloon. I actually put it in at 2 of our bigger blue collar accounts, one was a bakery and one was a hosiery mill. The people there probably make on average $12 an hour. They wouldn't touch the stuff, I put ads u for it, I had the digital signage running on our kiosks promoting it, NOTHING..they still paid $2.99 for the Monster and Redbull...crazy..

All of it is a bunch of crap. Eat better and exercise regularly should get you all the energy you need.
