To be perfectly  honest, Palin. She has executive experience, and has proven for 2 years now she can run a state. Obama has nothing but what, 4 years in the Senate? Honestly, give me a Governor over a Senator any day. Yeah, part of that is the Republican in me talking, but I like Obama, but it's at best a WASH experience wise between those 2, so give me the one with executive experience.

Well, as the old saying goes, "a country gets the leader that it deserves".  Let's hope it doesn't come to President Palin.  Fuckin' hell.

The best part about this is assuming that Palin has executive experience because she's running a state for 2 years.  I mean really, how hard can it be to run Alaska?  It's probably harder to be mayor of St. Paul, MN or Tacoma, WA than to be the governor of Alaska.  Seriously, what's there to do?  You pass bills on moose hunting and sign pipeline guidelines into legislation.  That's got to be about it, right?  Christ, I think two governors before her was the guy who used to run the local bait and tackle shop in Nome.

And besides that, just because you ran a state doesn't necessarily mean you did a good job; hell, Mitt Romney ran the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for four years, and I wouldn't want him to water my plants, much less be the Vice President of my country.

The funniest thing to me is how McCain's ads have been hammering how Obama's not experienced enough to lead and he goes and undercuts himself by picking a VP with *less* experience.

When I came into the cafeteria at work and saw the announcement on TV, my first thought was "wow, McCain's so desperate that he picked Tina Fey as his running mate".  I mean, she seems to have pretty solid cred for the hardline conservatives, but will they come out and vote for a woman VP on a ticket that has better than usual odds of having the VP take the reins at some point? I don't see it.

Also how much weight did the threat from the right wing media to not support/straight out tank McCain's run if he didn't pick someone with pro life beliefs? The buzz here in PA was that Tom Ridge was a done deal as the VP until Rush went out and publicily stated he'd refuse to support him if he chose a pro choice person.

Weird to see McCain scuttle the experience debate and just go after disgruntled Hillary backers, though.

Agree with the first part. It's a smart move by McCain. Obama has the black vote locked up. Why not try to get more women to vote for the GOP?

How is Palin any more prepared to run things than Obama? He came up through the Chicago political machine and she ran a state that's pretty much a giant walk in freezer with some oil pipes.

If you like her stands on the issues so be it, but let's not act like being the Gov of Alaska prepares anyone for jack shit.

It doesn't matter anyway, these people all rely on their Cabinet and advisors.  McCain is 150 and knows less about our economy than the homeless guy on the street corner.  He doesn't understand what the fuck the Fed does!  None of them are will be involved in the nitty-gritty.  They're figureheads who make sure that their partisan interests are served.

Not following American Politics to any degree at all up until now, I must ask...what do the polls say at this point, in terms of Obama or McCain becoming the next president? Is it at least close?

he was annointed through the Chicago political machine.

At least she has run something. Obama has done nothing but be totally manufactured.  The Manchurian Candidate at its best.

McCain should've got Kay Bailey Hutchinson if you ask me.

Also arguments against both Obama and Palin can be negated by the mention that GWB didn't do much before becoming President either, and what he did do he tended to fail spectacularly at.

GWB's TX governor tenures were regarded as successful and he was reelected by a pretty strong margin.

Palin.

It's easy to respond with one word answers.  The tough part is explaining your position.  So I have to ask you, Mr. Hayes, why would Palin be your answer?

Do you know something about Palin that McCain doesn't?  I hope you do, considering McCain spoke with her for only the second time in his life last week at the Alaska State Fair (that's a shoot).

The funny thing is, watching the responses here (and then watching Newt Gingrich on the "Today" show this morning) it's quite obvious to me that McCain could've picked Hank the Angry Dwarf as his running mate and the average Republican loyalist would've touted his stint on the Howard Stern show as a great example of his strengths in dealing with difficult situations.

It's the tactic of "anything to avoid criticism", since in the typical GOP mindset, criticism = failure.  To paraphrase Costanza, whether it's true or not, the only thing that matters is whether you (or the party supporters) believe it.

Remember folks, critical thinking is your friend.

Everything you said applies just as equally to the Dems.
