Apparently, she was on a flight from London to LAX and had a massive heart attack.  They rushed her to the hospital when plane landed.  There happened to be an EMT on the flight, and they administered CPR, but she reportedly wasn't breathing for like 10 minutes or so.

Just got to the theater waiting for Rogue One to begin and reading this news. It sounds really bad from the initial reports. Hoping for the best.

My very first show working security at the Palladium was the Clash in 1979. Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorcese were both in attendance. My boss, Grizzly Steve, who got me the gig and was a VP in the Angels told me to go out front and escort in the occupants of the limo that just arrived. I go out to the 13th street side of the building which was where the VIP's entered and get there just as the limo pulls up. Who walks out but Princess Leia. I had never seen Star Wars (still haven't) but I sure knew who she was. She was very gracious and sat down 4th row center. She didn't offer me a handjob as a tip and I was sort of disappointed.

For those wondering, I just read that Episode VIII is in post-production and they got everything they needed from her for that film.  So she will be in one more movie.  The big question is, how do they wrap this up in Episode IX now?  If they try to posthumously CGI her in, there will be an uproar from certain people.  There are people saying it was disrespectful to do that with Peter Cushing for this film, and he's nowhere near as iconic.

They'll have to say she had a cardiac on the Millennium Falcon but by the time they got to Endor she was too far gone.

They can re-edit Episode VIII to give her a death of some sort or perhaps use the many unused shots and scenes from that one and Episode VII to create a death scene for her in Episode IX. She could also simply be written out to play no role in Episode IX. If they make the next one a swan song for Mark Hamill, Episode IX could be one for the next generation barring the droids and perhaps Chewbacca. The lack of Han Solo won't mean the two upcoming sequels will do any worse.

TMZ says she suffered a stroke

Debbie Reynolds -- who rose to stardom in "Singin' in the Rain" and quickly became a staple among Hollywood royalty -- died Wednesday as a result of a stroke, TMZ has learned ... just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away ... this according to her son Todd.
Debbie was rushed to a hospital shortly after 1 PM when someone at the Beverly Hills home of her son, Todd, called 911 to report a possible stroke. We're told Debbie and Todd were making funeral plans for Carrie, who died Tuesday of cardiac arrest.
Debbie famously divorced Eddie Fisher in 1959 after his affair with Elizabeth Taylor.Debbie married 2 more times in 1960 and 1984.
She played iconic roles in "Tammy and the Bachelor" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" ... for which she earned an Oscar nomination.
Carrie's relationship with Debbie was the focus of Carrie's semi-autobiographical book, "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted for the big screen, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine.
Debbie's survived by her son Todd, who tells us, "She's with Carrie."
She was 84.
