Totally disagree with that. The last episode seemed to really hit the wall. Very bad attempts at scripted humor. Started to get into mushy/life lessons bullshit. I really enjoyed the show until the last episode. Hoping that episode was just a bump in the road.

Wife forced me to watch again. Now have seen more episodes of the reboot than I did the original. There are so many better things to watch on Netflix, Amazon and so on. Why continue to waste my time on this? My wife agreed that the last episode wasn't as good.

I think they're getting closer to the tone of the original show. It's a network sitcom, it's not going to be "Breaking Bad". There's only a handful of network sitcoms that reach the level of an objective good ("Mom", "The Good Place", a couple of others). You have to grade sitcoms on a curve against other crap. In that regard, I really think it's starting to hit it's stride, although Aunt Jackie's portrayal is such a channel-changer for me.

I tried to sample the first episodes of some new sitcoms with decent casts. I tried "Alex Inc." with Zach Braff from "Scrubs" and figured it had to be at least decent by sitcom standards. I was wrong. It's as bad as anything I've seen on TV in years. I tried "Splitting Up Together" with Jenna Fischer of "The Office" and I was one and done on that. It absolutely is hard to justify wasting time on crappy sitcoms when we're in a golden age of TV on premium and streaming channels (although that golden age admittedly might be coming to an end because some of those new shows are hit or miss now too - I'm watching "Barry" on HBO but it's hardly an HBO-level grand slam). But I judge sitcoms against other sitcoms, it's like winning a medal in the Special Olympics but you don't think any of them are going to beat Carl Lewis. And compared to say the "Will & Grace" reboot, "Roseanne" is showing some promise for me.

Last episode was awful.

The biggest challenge with TV now is that there are so many good things to watch when you count all the cable TV shows (HBO, Show, Starz) and Netflix, Amazon. Even WGN has had a couple of good shows. Not to mention FX, Sundance and AMC. I just don't see what standard network tv has to offer.

Trump supporters were really sold a bill of goods with this show, and the liberals boycotting it look as stupid as ever.  Last night, Roseanne got Muslim neighbors and it was a textbook "All in the Family" episode where she said racist things, looked stupid, and learned a valuable lesson at the end and wound up standing up for them.  This is in no way a conservative show.  Even in the B storyline where Dan loses a job to illegal immigrants he blamed the guy who hired them and not the immigrants themselves.  I fail to see how this is much different than any other show on TV, but everyone keeps politicizing it and writing ridiculously long reviews dissecting every sentence and finding something to complain about either way.

Wow, ABC just cancelled the show after Roseanne made what was deemed a racist tweet.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/29/abc-cancels-roseanne-barrs-sitcom-after-her-tweet-about-black-obama-aide-valerie-jarrett.html

ABC announced on Tuesday that it would cancel the sitcom "Roseanne" following "abhorrent" comments from the star, Roseanne Barr, who had compared former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett to an ape.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement Tuesday.

Roseanne had apologized for her comments, in which she compared Jarrett to an ape, earlier in the day.

Barr said of Jarrett in the since-deleted tweet: "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj."

"I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans," Barr wrote on Twitter. "I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste."

The actress had earlier defended the statement against other critics on the social media platform.

"Roseanne" returned to television this year after an initial run in the 1980s and '90s. The show was an immediate hit, with more than 18 million viewers watching the premiere.

The revival, which commanded a huge audience during its first season, had been renewed for a second season in March.

Dungey is reportedly the first black female head of a major TV network.

If somebody else can afford the show, they will pick it up.  It was generating good ratings.  I can see Netflix taking a risk with this one.

No well in hell.  She's untouchable now.  And Netflix is super-liberal with a deal with the Obamas that they just signed and former members of the Obama administration in executive positions, so they're completely out.

This whole thing was under so much scrutiny to begin with and to blow it all with a tweet like that confirming (in their minds) all left wing assumptions of Trump supporters is beyond stupid.

What the hell was she thinking?

I am serious. She had to type that and read it. Was she loaded up? Popping pills?

Who with that status does that without thinking?

I would blame it on being wealthy and far removed from reality and consequences to actions, but I don't think that's it.  Middle class people write things on social media all the time that are mind-blowing and get fired for it.  It's such an interesting phenomenon that is unique to this period in history where getting a like or a re-tweet or any validation of your opinion becomes the most important thing in the world at the moment you're hitting enter, much moreso than your career or money or family or whatever.  People literally cannot seem to help themselves even with YEARS of evidence of exactly how bad it can get for them.  There's some type of weird addiction there on par with drug use that I can't completely understand.

Maybe the most bizarre part of this is that Roseanne is a comedian and a pretty good one but that "joke" is just awful and unoriginal.  There are incredibly funny racist jokes.  If you're going to get fired, write one of those.  This was never worth putting out there.  It was the equivalent of just screaming the "n" word.  OK, why?

I still think it is strange behavior in this day and age.  Did Roseanne really (REALLY) think that those statements would be taken as a joke.  No way!  Unless she is warped by some chemical or something.
