He broke a MLB rule, not the law.

Well he was betting with bookies so he definitely broke the law too, although prosecutors never pursued it.  But yeah, this is irrelevant to MLB's rules.

Various news sources are predicting that Pennsylvania will be one of the first states to implement sports gambling. According to this Washington Post article, the only obstacles / negatives in Pennsylvania are:

1) Each casino would need to pay a $10 million licensing fee
2) The gambling revenue would be taxed at 36%

They would do it in a heartbeat and make the odds slightly worse than Vegas to recover the rev.  I would rather see a federal framework developed so we can all place bets with the true odds out of Vegas.

This 'Integrity Tax' the leagues are looking to collect.

Why do the leagues think they are entitled to anything? I can bet money on what color shirt Chris Collingsworth will wear on opening night -- does this mean he should bet a piece of that action?

Don't they realize by getting involved and collecting an 'integrity tax' they are 'taking responsibility' (something they actually won't do) if something looks fishy.

They're claiming that that keeping the sports clean will require more overhead and systems in place and investigation units.  Of course, they're not asking Vegas to pay them anything right now, so...

So they are taking responsibility if/when something fishy happens? (it inevitably will)

These leagues fought against the legalization of sports betting for years and now they want to get paid. Ridiculous.
