You all are batting about .1000 when it comes to helping with old nostalgic things.  I think this one will amp the panel.

During a recent round-table discussion at a local watering hole, a few of my friends and I were talking about the glory days from our high school years.
The topic came up of how there was a PSA/commercial on TV in which a young black male is seen walking up the staircase in an apartment building (there may have been more footage before or after this).   An older black woman who we assume is the young man’s mother is ironing (we believe) when the young man walks in the door.  The older black woman stops and says in a desperate voice, “Did you get the job?”  The young man shakes his head no.

We believe the commercial was for the United Negro College Fund.  It was something like that.

The whole commercial was pretty bad in regards to acting and production.
During our senior year, 1984-1985, this commercial was one of those things that became a pop culture joke for many in the class.  “Did you get the job?” became a running joke and was said in classrooms, hallways and we even recorded the audio of the commercial and had the DJ play it at the big Christmas dance.

I have looked within YouTube and cannot find anything with this commercial.
I have tried googling “Did you get the job?” with other words such as TV commercials, Black woman, and negro college fund (I think it was still called that back then).   Nothing close even comes up.

Does anybody even remember this?

Are we correct with this being a commercial for the United Negro College Fund?
This commercial was being shown in 1984 so we would guess it was released in ‘82, ‘83 or ‘84.

Can anybody the footage for this commercial?  It would make a few 51ers laugh for awhile and bring back some memories.

You have all helped me with identifying an orange soda that has been extinct for almost 50 years and finding names old Batman comic books, but this commercial issue, although more recent than the other things, seems to have no starting point.

Yeah, I think I remember that, it was a UNCF commercial.

Okay, then we were thinking right. There are other ads from UNCF on YouTube but not that one.

Don't recall that one. I was a big TV geek back then.

My sister was class of '85. I'll ask her if this rings a bell. Personally, I only have vague memories of what you're describing and those may be nothing more than internalizing what you've just described.

Actually, I just asked a girl at work about this, also class of '85, and it didn't ring a bell with her, but she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I know it existed.

I was just not sure of who the sponsor was.

I would also like to see a video of it, again.

The weird thing is that YouTube has UNCF commercials before and after the 1983-1985 timeline, so I am thinking it fits but it is just missing.
