Look up Jackie Gleason and the series "You're in the Picture" for a candidate for this thread.

The only sitcom in history I've ever seen where the poor people really lived in a place where poor people would live was "The Honeymooners".  That was a shit one bedroom apartment that was bare bones and everything looked dirty and broken down.  After the '50s, I guess someone decided that everything had to look nicer on TV even if it wasn't realistic.
I thought the Evans family on Good Times was pretty run down.

There was a Canadians show called the Beachcombers that ran forever.. A character on that show named Relic lived in a dump for the whole 27 seasons.
I recall that Johnny Fever's apt in WKRP was also a shithole.
Holy shit you're right. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066630/

Hope it's not too much of a tangent, but I don't think this is worth it's own thread: I'm trying to remember an 80's late-night show (probably syndicated). The gimmick was that the show would supposedly go all over the country, hosting from either an RV or a double-decker bus (can't remember which). The vehicle was parked on the side of the show set and most episodes were filmed outdoors with a live audience visible. It was your basic late night interview show, but seemed like something MTV would've done on their "Spring Break" shows.

I remember watching it around the spring/summer of 1987. I think (the comedian) Sinbad was in it, as sort of a secondary host or recurring character.

I want to say it was called "Coast to Coast" or "Live across the USA", but searching for those have turned up nothing substantial.

Any idea?

Yup! That's it. Thank you.
Looking through the YouTube page, it's not a "worst show", as it appears to be mostly stand-up routines. I clearly mis-remembered it, as it's not exactly a late night talk show.  I'd say the main host (with the glasses) is a fairly bad on-screen presence, though.

And let's not forget Fred and Lamont Sanford's home, although a junk dealer that resides in the ghetto probably shouldn't be living in anything other than squalor.
