The thing about this confirmation vote is that Republicans aren't voting on whether they believe Kavanaugh or whether they think he should be a Supreme Court Justice. They are voting on what they believe the impact of this vote will be on the mid-term elections. I'd guess they have more to lose by confirming him than by not, and that will be the deciding factor.

More to lose by confirming? The Republican base absolutely wants him confirmed and will lose the base in the midterms if they don't.

Um, yeah. I thought that was common knowledge.

I don't know if he did what he was accused of doing or not, and the Democrats grandstanding during their "questioning" (most didn't really ask questions but gave stump speeches) was amusing and transparent.  The Republican speeches were equally entertaining, especially Ted Cruz who went on and on about the pain this has caused Kavanaugh's poor mother.

Republican voters, though, always tend to try to one-up their Democratic counterparts in their vileness, such as the interview that's gone viral of a mother accompanied by her 2 teenage daughters saying she doesn't care if Kavanaugh is guilty, that groping girls in high school without their consent is perfectly normal, and then she turned to her daughters to receive their agreement.  So it's open season on those two jailbait bitches I guess.  Wherever they go to school, it's a party tonight!  Whoo-hoo!!!

I don't know, seems to me the dems are doing more harm than good with how they are handling this. Might come back and bite them in the ass in November, no matter how the confirmation turns out

Jeff Flake has announced that he will vote yes, dramatically increasing Kavanaugh's chances of being confirmed. There's still a couple of "maybes" on the Republican side, but it's looking much better for him now.

George W. Bush is also whipping the Republicans to confirm him since Trump has made so many enemies, once again proving that partisan politics and getting rid of abortion is more important than anything else in the world to these guys.

If Manchin votes yes like it's been reported, Murkowski and Collins can vote against him, and he'll still be confirmed.

Well played!
Seriously, this lady had no piece of evidence outside of her emotional testimony. She names witnesses, one of whom were her friends, and none of them recall being at that party. Hoe could anyone in good conscience punish this guy? As a man, doesn't this scare you that maybe someone can levy a baseless accusation against you?

I can easily see it both ways.

In a court of law, there's no way that anything was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.  But this isn't a court of law. She came off as fairly credible, and there's the obvious question about why someone in a fairly good position in life would put herself through all this and perjure herself if it wasn't true.  Of course there could be political reasons, but she sure is taking one for the team to say the least by doing all this.

Then you have Kavanaugh, who let's face it, is a douche and surely was a bigger one as a teen.  The funny thing is, EVERYONE knows someone like Kavanuagh in high school and college and hates him, but because of how partisan the issue is some people have to pretend that he wasn't the spoiled, entitled, drunken frat boy that we certainly know he was.  But none of that means he sexually assaulted anyone, necessarily.  I could see him doing it and not remembering, and it not being a big deal at the time.  I could also see it not even being considered sexual assault at the time because let's face it, the bar has shifted on that one, and what used to get you nothing but a punch in the face by a boyfriend or father and then was forgotten is now a much bigger deal.  He probably did something, but no one will ever know for sure.

So yes, as a man but more importantly as the father of a son, and I've posted this before, I am absolutely scared at the witch hunt culture against white males that has developed where all it takes is an unfounded accusation to get someone expelled from school or worse.  Evidence should still count and you still should be seen as innocent until proven guilty.

But again, this isn't a criminal case, a civil case, even a school tribunal to see if someone can continue to get the education they deserve.  This is a bunch of assholes talking to another asshole to see if he can join their asshole club and get to be a bigger asshole to shred our Constitution further and screw over the rest of us. So there's that...If you're expecting me to lose sleep over an entitled prick maybe not getting his dream job of spitting on the 4th Amendment because of a false accusation but still living a life better than 99.9% of people ever will, well I'll sleep like a baby, I guarantee it.

He's also messing with his own presidential hopes.  He's trying to play both sides and use this as something to run on, and instead he's pissed off everyone and will get no support from either side.

Dems on the other side in red states did that as well when the D's had the majority.   2 others will probably go that way as well.
Flake basically got a 1 week delay for an investigation which will resolve nothing.  I say his odds are about 95% that he gets confirmed.
I absolutely do not think this helps the R's though.  Women were already pissed.  Now, they are frothing.  Then again, politics is often unpredictable so my guess could be as wrong as any.

It really is at the point now where you need to be extreme to get elected as POTUS.  Something has changed in society.  Both left and right.  I would not be surprised to see Trump re-elected even if the R's have a bad mid-term.  Presidential elections are always about the economy if an incumbent is running while mid-terms are seldom about the economy.  The next Dem as POTUS will probably happen because the economy goes in the tank and it will be someone to the left of even Obama.  I think Obama will wind up looking like a moderate by comparison.

The FBI investigation will be used to shield the GOP. THEY want this investigation.
