If you like it, explain why. If you hate it, give me an alternative. I would rather just not have 'parties'. in my lifetime they have done nothing but grapple with each other.

Terrible. Growing up in Canada where you've had in my lifetime at least 3-5 parties , there's a better spectrum of options, and it forces more compromise when it comes to legislation. Here it's two side just shitting on each other. Last edited on Sat Sep 29th, 2018 03:34 pm by Principal_Raditch |

That's kinda why I like Canada. Instead of 2 shitty parties you can have at times up to 6 or 7 on one ballot!

Two-party system is antiquated and thoroughly corrupt. I actually we had a chance to break from that with Trump leading 5he charge, but no, he caved into the special interests.

I don't think he caved into anything. He was just full of shit and then acted just how he always wanted to.

I am not sure about that. I think he is way more liberal than his platform. I think he sold his soul to the polls instead of being a real maverick. He had the opportunity, but he wants to maintain that specific base.

As President, George Washington said political parties would hurt America. Every day, he is proven correct. The toothpaste is out of the tube and there is no putting it back. I would say a strong 3rd party is needed but even the hint of one gaining traction causes the other 2 to get together with their endless money and make certain they amount to nothing.

Papa Voo wrote: I am not sure about that. I believe the most glaring example is what he said to the LGBT community before the election and what he did afterwards. His healthcare claims aren't much different, everything was going to be cheaper and better and in the end he just wanted to kill off everything Obama did. But hey, maybe you can argue well against it. To me politics isn't really anymore who is wrong and who is right, I mostly just want a compelling case to be presented by each side. But Republicans rarely are able to do that nowadays - this is my own opinion of course.

I wish candidates had to run as independents and solely on their record and/or their vision for the future. There should be limited money available and NO corporate contributions or PAC money allowed. Even better would be if it worked like Jury duty. You want to serve and meet some minimum qualifications, you enter a lottery and if you get drawn you serve for x number of years. Stagger the drawings so there is a mix of new and experienced people. When you are done, you go home. No lobbyists allowed.

Who the hell would pay millions of dollars to get a job that pays a couple hundred thousand per year? There has to be something shady going on to justify the expense. Sadly, I don't think independent candidates would get anything accomplished since everybody would have their own opinions / agendas. But maybe it would be better than the current Democrat vs Republican pissing matches we currently have. I think the common man has been completely left out of the political process. Nowadays it is all about the rich passing laws / buying laws to get richer and the poor selling their votes for whatever party will give them some crumbs. The middle class is stuck with the bill.

And since the USSC is the hot topic, they ruled just a few years ago that corporations are people when it comes to donations. That was another huge blow against any kind of reform in campaign financing.

I don't personally know anyone who thinks the two-party system is working, but millions fight to the death to defend it. Then again, I don't know anyone who likes Nickelback, but they sell millions of albums.

Is a two party system avoidable in a free society? I like small government and others like big government. There will always be that divide. We're just way too polarized today. Does everyone the bromance between Reagan and O'Neal? I think that type of non-partisanship is gone.
