It appears that Hollywood has run out of ideas and is trying to cash in on nostalgia. CBS seems to have figured out a good reboot formula as Magnum PI and Hawaii Five-O have had strong returns for the network. NBC tried to bring back Hunter in 2003 as a weekly show after several highly rated TV movies following its cancellation in 1991 but the revived series only lasted 3 episodes. ABC has had success rebooting prime time game shows with such programs as "The Match Game", "The $100,000 Pyramid", and numerous prime time episodes of "The Family Feud". "Roseanne" seemed primed for reboot success before Roseanne Barr tweeted herself out of a job. ABC is also planning a reboot of "NYPD Blue" without Dennis Franz (Det Andy Sipowicz) who declined to return.

Are there any past TV shows that you think would be a good reboot? Are there any of your favorite TV shows that Hollywood has tried to reboot that were utter failures?

I wouldn't count game shows in this. Hill Street Blues would be interesting as a reboot. The defense attorney now could double as a stripper. The Cosby Show with Theo as the main guy explaining to his kids why grandpa is locked up. Family Ties with the Michael J Fox role played as an out of control Trumper with the parents as Bernie supporters who want everything for free.

I always liked Wiseguy but that format has been done to death now.

None. I don’t need to see a black “Seinfeld” or “Sanford and Son” complaining about Trump. Enough!

Police Squad. They only ever made six because it didn't do well in the ratings. ABC said they were cancelling it because, and I quote, the viewer had to watch it in order to appreciate it.

Over here we had a series of adverts for Red Rock Cider with Leslie Nielsen and very PS-esque scripts.

I can’t imagine anyone else playing this Nielsen role though. They’d recast with a hack like Kevin Hart or someone like that.

They'd need a serious actor.  Ian McKellen or someone of that ilk.

Land of the Giants, but I have yet to enjoy even one reboot.

Oz

One of those shows that could have gone on forever. New inmates with perhaps one or 2 of the original cast, if any of them are still alive.

Ditto on Family Ties. In the 80s, there really wasn't much polarization. A show about a kid being a Trump supporter and his parents being die hard Bernie liberal would be ratings gold.

Knight Rider but as a boat in Knight Boat.

I’m kidding; the Simpsons had a joke years ago where the family was watching Knight boat and they turned the show off because knight boat always found a stream, creek or floodplain to solve the crime.

I wouldn't watch that show if you paid me.  I am all Trumped out and so tired of every fucking show being about him or using metaphors for "Trump's America".  Even "Supergirl" is all about Trump this year!
