I’m going to join a gym this week and looking to see if anyone else is doing it or done it?

I did it for a year. I wrestled in high school and I was never sold on BJJ. When I was in my early 30s, I was a roided up and weighed 230lbs. I met Miguel Torres, who was probably 115lbs. I became a believer in bjj when that skinny Mexican with a mullet made me tap within 30 seconds. It's a phenomenal method of self defense. I do Muay Thai half the year. That's less wear and tear on the joints.

Day 2 was a lot of fun; hopefully my life stays relatively stable and I can keep finding the time to attend. Tonight was more drilling then instruction and most of the advanced class stayed so I was able to get a lot of time working with a purple belt and it was good. I’m terrible as it’s only day 2 but very enjoyable. I’ve been in a rut for a long time just going thru the grind of life and this is a nice change of pace.

Keep it up. I find that having a hobby helps fight the stress life throws at us. I'd love to get back into it, but my body is pretty beaten through years of weightlifting.

I finished up my second week yesterday and it was a great time. I’m pretty bummed though as I will miss 3 out of the next six weeks due to them being closed for the holidays and travel I have arranged for work. I plan to hit extra classes when I can attend during that time to make up for lost time so I’m certainly looking forward to that. Once I get my 15th class in I’ll be allowed to start attending classes outside of the beginner class which will be nice so i can double up on the 2 nights I plan to regularly attend. I doubt I’ll ever be worth a shit but it’s fun and I dropped 7lbs since I started so that’s nice

At work I’m the boss and when I’m home I have kids to parent and a wife to partner with but at class I just have to worry about me. I don’t have to think about anything but me for that time and it’s nice. I appreciate my job and love my family but these classes are the first time in a long time where I can just leave the responsibilities of life at the door. Sounds kind of cheesy and weird to say it but it’s nice.

10 yrs ago, there'd have been a lot of questioned sexuality in this thread.

About twelve years ago the postal service rep that I had to deal with regularly at my job at the time was always trying to convince me to go to BJJ classes that he attended. He was in his mid to late forties at the time and he said he absolutely loved rolling. He said he wasn't very good, but just the physical activity exerted and the stress relief he got from participating made it all worth going each week. Unfortunately it was around the time that I left that job to take one in another city. I always regret not going with him as I may have continued at a different school, once I moved. You sound like you really love doing this Franchise. Don't give up, you will see yourself getting better and better as time goes by and before you know it you will be tapping guys out with greater frequency. Reading this thread and following your progress the last couple of weeks has renewed my interest in the sport. I am now in the same age bracket of the the postal rep friend I had. I am going to research schools in my area and see where things go.

Since that has been taken away ( complete shoulder replacement), I haven't found an outlet to replace it with. Leaves a big void in my life.

First class back last night and I had a great time; I’m going to try like hell to get to class tonight (630 as opposed to 715) so we will see.

Alright I’m a few months in and it’s still pretty cool but at times it certainly feels like a chore. We were working on a technique last night and it felt like I was scripting the HBK v Hart Ironman match. It just went on and on forever.

My schedule recently has been reduced due to my kids activities but I’m still attending. Rilion Gracie made it out to our school this week. He is a nice polite person and a smooth teacher.
