This polar vortex of 2019 seems to be some serious business instead of the usual garden variety media lets start a panic shitstorm we see ever month or so, coldest temperatures in a century or more in some places, the Midwest being hit especially hard. Was wondering just how cold it might be for our member here and what if anything it is doing to have any effect on your life. For myself it's not that bad per se the weather as I am in North Carolina, but it is having a really bad effect on my work of transporting trucks as every available load is heading up to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Pennsylvania, and flat out am not willingly going where the high temperatures are well below zero, or in the case of Pennsylvania where they shut down the Interstate highways 2 days in advance of a storm that may or may not show up because they are too lazy to plow the roads. They even offered me a $300 bonus to take a truck to North Dakota, now what kind of fool would go to North Dakota in these conditions? Anyways, winter isn't coming, it's here, and it's colder than a Siberian cocksucker kneecaps.

I laugh at how people handle this shit down here. This morning it's @ -2F, which is about -19 Celsius. They have shut down all the schools here today based on this idea that kids can't somehow stand as the school bus stop for 10 minutes without dying of hypothermia. Meanwhile up in the Winnipeg it's -32F, and the kids are going to school. By tomorrow though it'll be back up to high 30's and in the 50's for the weekend.

This morning it’s -5 with windchills around -35, and this Monday it will be 59 degrees, making it a 94 degree temperature change in 5 days including wind chill. Pretty crazy stuff to say the least.

Right now in NYC it's 21 and feels 21, but throughout the day temperatures will drop and dangerously high winds will pick up. By late afternoon, some areas could see a wind chill of -20, and all day tomorrow should be just as bad. It's still nothing like Chicago, which I heard could have a wind chill of -50, although that sounds like an exaggeration.

They did their business outside and hurried back in. Feel sorry for any stray pets.

It's cold here in Winterpeg, Manisnowba but I've seen worse.Fuckers crying about -19 need to be repeated kicked in the nutsack.I'm outside the city where it's actually colder. Good thing we got a delivery of firewood last week. Fireplaces pretty much going non stop during waking hours. And yet people here need to be told it's cold and to dress appropriately. Wastes if if flesh.

The temperature here in Minneapolis is -24. It was -28 when I woke up. We are going to make a high temp of -15 in mid afternoon, then it will fall back to -27 overnight. The insane thing is we're going to make highs in the low 40s this weekend.

Regarding kids not going to school, when I was a kid, we never lost days due to extreme cold, only very heavy snow and there was great reluctance to cancel school over that unless it was essentially a blizzard because it was so much harder to spread the word back then. I walked two blocks to school in elementary school and in 3rd or 4th grade walked out into what amounted to planet Hoth only to arrive at school and find it had been called off. The building was open and more than a few teachers and students had also shown up, also none the wiser. So we were corralled into a group of rooms and had a no lessons day of fun (games, activities, open gym, etc.). The big concern around these parts, and it's very understandable, is sending kids out to bus stops in dangerous cold to risk frostbite. It's possibly overkill and inconveniences a lot of parents, but my wife teaches at and my oldest also attends a school at which it's not uncommon for kids to not have proper winter coats or to lack hats and gloves due to various combinations of lack of funds, recent immigrants from families who don't understand Minnesota winter, and flat out parental irresponsibility. Protecting the kids is worth it.

By the way, I love “it’s colder than a Siberian cocksucker’s kneecaps”. Nobody gave that line proper respect!
