CULVER CITY, Calif. — A 34-year-old professional sports gambler from Las Vegas won more than $110,000 on “Jeopardy!” on Tuesday, breaking the record for single-day cash winnings. The show said in a press release that James Holzhauer won the episode with a total of $110,914. The previous record of $77,000 was set by Roger Craig in 2010. Tuesday’s win was the fourth consecutive victory for Holzhauer, whose winnings total more than $244,000. He will face two new challengers Wednesday. “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek revealed in March that he was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer but said he intends to fight the disease and keep on working. The episode that aired Tuesday was taped Feb. 11

He got control of the board and went for "Daily Doubles' and never missed. He was a machine.

I just saw this guy. He's completely unstoppable with Daily Doubles. I wonder if he'll eclipse Ken Jennings for longest stay.

What is the "game theory" around finding Daily Doubles? I thought they were random. Is this like the guy who figured out the formula on Press Your Luck in the '80s?

Went 40 for 40 in the first two rounds of Wednesday's show. Buzzed in first 90% of the time. Can he go on 'Millionaire' and clean them the fuck out at the same time?

There's something slightly off about this guy, although I'm not sure what it is. His expression never seems to waver during the games. Whatever the case is, he's pretty damn impressive. He's mop the floor with Ken Jennings. I don't quite get Jeopardy's refusal to make the Daily Double locations truly random. You almost never see them in the first or last rows. Why not? When people stopped going straight down the columns a few years ago, they should have gone to completely random placement.

I haven't even seen a second of these games yet (I hope I can find them on YouTube or something) but the fact that there's "something slightly off about this guy" would be my default assumption about anyone like this. I'm sure he's on the autism spectrum or something similar.

All I know is that if I was booked as a contestant against this guy, I'd be a little miffed. It's like asking a Little Leaguer to pitch to Barry Bonds. It's just not fair.

So he probably has a stock "cheesy smiling face" and is accustomed to not showing his real emotions. When he starts playing Jeopardy he goes into a game mode and nothing (so far) distracts him. He's also very quick to call out the next question and I don't think there have been any un-used clues in any round he's played. There's something slightly off about this guy, although I'm not sure what it is. He has shown quite a bit of personality and isn't exactly robotic. He rang in on a clue about Pearl Jam and crooned "Better Maaaaaaan". His Daily Double and Final Jeopardy wagers are usually random numbers or someone's birthday, which explains why he has such odd numbered scores in each game. While Final Jeopardy wagers vary to the single dollar amount but, traditionally, Jeopardy contestant wager only even numbers for Daily Doubles. Someone dug deep and found that he was on the 2014 ABC game show "The Chase" and did well. Another article speculates that Holzhaeur's per episode payout might actually be more than Alex Trebek's.

My wife had me watch the last 15 minutes last night to see this guy. He is a machine. Over $1m now and it is hard to see him being taken down anytime soon. The show loves this btw. The ratings will increase big time.

They're surely building it up to a match against the bloke who had the previous record in a head-to-head. And with a bit of luck they will time it so Trebek drops dead while reading the final question.
