For the record, the official story is that Lisa had booked a solo tour (which is true) and the Stones did some fly-in gigs around 2015-2016 that Lisa couldn't make so they brought in Sasha to fill in but then they never brought Lisa back.

The reality probably is that Mick had been wanting to bring in a much younger woman to duet with on that song for a while and that was his chance and he took it...but I don't care if they had to roll her out on a rascal every night, Lisa is still the person that should be up on that stage every night singing that song..

I enjoyed the time that Fergie did it with Mick at the Garden for some celebration.

This thread had me looking at Youtube for more versions. Keith did some really, really good versions of Gimme Shelter in the early '90s with the Winos and I believe it's Lisa singing on all of them with him.

I always thought it was a dick move by the Stones during I believe the 2016 tour when they pulled into the Barclay Center in Brooklyn (where Lisa was born and raised) and had Lady Gaga (who I love) do Gimme Shelter instead of Lisa. The show was already sold out so they weren't going to sell anymore seats. It was the first time the Stones played Brooklyn so I'm sure it would have been a special night for her.

On a side note, why don't they make Darryl Jones a full member? Twenty six years with them on the road and in the studio and the man is literally a virtuoso.

Financially is one reason, they’re a corporation basically now and no way are they adding someone else with a full vote. IF they haven’t done it with Chuck by now Darryl sure isn’t getting in.
Second reason is you add him a full member you have to put him in all the official pics and album covers when they do them and he doesn’t look the part. And by look the part I mean old. You see the 4 of them now in pics yeah they’re old but they’re old together. You don’t put a guy 20 years younger in those pics, it reminds people just now really old the rest of them are..

We could do a while thread on guys who have been with bands for decades and still aren’t considered part of the band. Hugh McDonald with Bob Jovi comes immediately to mind.

Well, given this thread, Ian Stewart.

And Zak Starkey has been with The Who since their 1996 return. As well as with Oasis for half a decade.

Pete TRIED to make Zak a full member like 10 years ago, I mean a REAL full member with a piece of the Corp, band voting rights, full-on member and Zak turned him down. He wanted to stay just a paid employee so he could drum for other bands and he was hoping Oasis finally got back together. IMO he was insane to turn Pete down..

He’s Ringo’s son. He already has more money than God, or eventually will. And he’s not going to mark out over being a full member of a legendary band past its prime. I can understand him wanting to keep his options open. He had the Oasis thing, he could jump on tours with his father’s All-Star Band whenever he wanted, he could work on his own projects, he could jump to another high-profile band if Pete or Roger drop dead or end up in jail for pedophilia, all without the headaches. I get it.

After Sambora left?  Jon even treated him like an employee. He seems like a smart businessman but a complete asshole to work with.

Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer from KISS. However, I have a better chance of having a threeway with Shakira and J-Lo than Gene and Paul opening their wallets.
