I have a friend who lives in Florida, he usually 'rides these things out' but for this one he is talking about getting out of town

The current models are showing it to curve north before it reaches Florida.

Looks like it's turning North and staying in the Atlantic.
Oil companies are pissed, now they can't start a false panic and Jack gas prices up by .30 or .40 cents per gallon like they do anytime one threatens to enter the Gulf.

laws are pretty strict about that, if you are seeing major price spikes at stations it usually has more to do with the costs of getting the load to the station which almost always has nothing to do with the supplier or the terminal the fuel is loaded at.

Many stations here in Orlando are covering up the pumps and putting up signs that they are out of gas. Some say they only have regular, and some claim all they have is the higher price d types.

Most that still are selling are covering up the debit/credit card machines and having customers pre-pay inside to avoid potential drive-offs.

Riding out the hurricane seems like a good idea if it's going to miss your area or you get hit by the edge of the storm and little damage is done. Riding out a direct hit seems like a very bad idea. You lose electricity, gas, and water service, assuming your house wasn't completely demolished by the storm or damaged to the point of being uninhabitable, and assuming you're still alive and not badly injured. Roads are inevitably blocked by debris, a good deal of which are things that will puncture car ties, or are washed out. So if you are injured and need help, want to get out after the storm if you're okay or need to get food and supplies, you might have no way of doing so. There is also the possibility of an official curfew to restrict your movements. I get wanting to be home and/or protect your property, but think people who ride it out either don't factor in all the negatives or are in denial about the worst happening to them.

Disney is taking it seriously - they are staggering closing theme parks today at 2 and at 3. They are allowing dining reservations at the parks until the exact time they close, and if you have a resort reservation, they will let you in as late as 5:30. What is unclear is how long their transportation will run if you happen to have one of those 5:30 reservations at a resort but you are staying in another resort. This storm is moving slower than any I can ever remember, and the Bahamas have been getting drilled in the ass with it.

The latest projection has the eye of the storm path passing less than a mile from where I'm staying in Nova Scotia tomorrow night.

5 days later and he can't let this one go. Posting nonsensical cat memes in the middle of the night, and all supporters think that he just owned CNN.

Based on the projected cone on the board at the time Alabama wasn’t that outlandish especially considering they usually run the cone through the storms stages as it remains. That being said by the time it reached Alabama it most certainly wouldn’t have been a hurricane.

When I first read this post I thought he was saying it was going to make a left turn from South Carolina; I never saw the original newscast.

As far as the cat meme who knows? maybe he figured cat videos are popular and he is popular and wanted to combine them into something ultra popular.

This is the silliest of all the Trump controversies, and shows you what happens when you have someone who is legitimately mentally ill surrounded by yes-men trying to protect him. This goes so far beyond politics. We have a senile president, whether you agree with his policies or not, and we have to pretend everything is OK. The Sharpiegate memes are hilarious but really this is a sad situation.  I always thought Trump was a halfway decent person until about 10 years ago when the dementia clearly kicked in and has been getting progressively worse.  You can visibly see his deterioration, especially if you're a NYer who always saw a lot of him.  He was an articulate guy at one point.  I think he'll win a second term but there's no way he will survive it, or be able to be seen in public by the end of it.
