I had a very scary health scare when I blacked out while my wife tried to help me to my recliner to give me a breathing treatment. I was rushed to the ER via ambulance as I couldn't even speak, let alone walk. I was sent to the ER and it appeared that I walked into the plague as my wife was sent home. I had several tests and told that I had to be transferred to another hospital and that they were able to do a procedure that I needed ASAP. I was told that I has a massive blood clot in a blood vessel near my right ventricle and it was shutting down my heart. I got immediately wheeled into CCU and within 25 minutes or so, they did the hour procedure under local anesthesia. I had 2 catheter's placed into the right side of my groin that was sent towards the arteries of my heart and they vibrated the clot into smaller pieces. After everything was done, my wife was called and that if I didn't have that procedure, I would've passed away within 12 to 24 hours. I recovered quickly enough to be move to a regular room on Sunday afternoon and I was sent home yesterday afternoon with me having to take 2 shots of lovenox twice a day for at least the next 6 months. It was very difficult for me to be in this situation and I'm not afraid to tell anyone that I had several panic attacks and if it wasn't for my wife sending over her dad's cell phone so I could facetime her anytime I needed to, I don't think I would have made it. She drove 40 minutes one way twice into bring me up stuff to help me get through this, including me depression medicine that I can't even miss for a day, let alone almost 3 days. I'm still having a difficult time with this even though I'm home and happy to see my 7 year old little buddy and to sleep in my own bed that I actually fit in and to use a shower that I fit in as well. Did they put you on a heparin drip right away? I don't generally get cath patients since they're the domain of Tele, and I only float there once in a while. The lovenox shots are a pain in the ass. I administer them a lot...You'll get a lot of bruising on your stomach, but it's not a big deal. Good thing that clot didn't break off and lead to a PE though. Glad you're ok.

Instead of focusing on almost dying...focus on how you are going to recover and be stronger than ever. Fuck death. It'll be there for all of us eventually. For you? Not until your 7 year old has grandkids. So look in the mirror for two minutes and realize you are here for a long, long time. You've 'almost died' a couple of times - think we all have. Almost isn't the scary part, my brother. Kiss your kid, hold your wife tight, and strap in because we are all on fucking lockdown. Assuming the drug you told us you are on is a blood thinner. Just don't cut yourself deep and you'll be right as rain. Chin up and your friends here think the world of you. Don't forget it.

The first 10 secs it felt like they were injecting acid inside of me. Hurt like hell. When I looked at my stomach when I returned home my stomach was completely black. Freebird..be glad you have a loving family. Certainly something to live for. Hopefully the worst is over for you. The masks alone for a 12 hour shift and trying to breathe out of one of those things have to be a pain in the ass. I was told by 1 nurse that a few have brusing around their nose area from wearing them.

Damn man that's some scary stuff. I think virtually all of us here would have had a panic attack going through something like that. Sounds like you got a good woman taking care of you. Glad you're ok. I think I'm one of the oldest on this board so I get to die first. That of course assuming that beej doesn't do anything retarded around ladders anymore.

Well, I started to get slowly moving again, doing little walks once a day with my family. The first was to the mailbox and back ( about 75 yards or so) and yesterday we went a bit farther to the next-door neighbor. I can wash myself, but I still need help drying off after my shower. I've been very careful with my diet as I really haven't been hungry and the Lovenox I have to take can cause diarrhea, so it's better to be safe then sorry. Yesterday was a big day as I exercised and played Lego DC Super Villains with my son for about 90 minutes before I got too tired to play anymore. Today I've been exhausted and it hasn't helped that It poured rain since last night. It's suppose to be decent tomorrow so we will get back to walking outside and moving around hopefully a bit more.

Nice. It sounds like you're rehabbing at a perfect rate. Pushing yourself to do a little better but not running yourself into the ground. You are going to be just fine.
