Happy Jogger Day, fellow posters. What, you didn't know that today was the most important holiday ever? Well, you do now. Or else. https://nitter.net/wokecapital

It's a bizarre date to choose to celebrate. The Emancipatio Proclamation was issued on Jan. 1, 1863. June 19, 1865 was the date, 2 1/2 years later, that Texas finally got around to recognizing it. It seems like a day to celebrate Texas being more racist than most, but it's always been a big holiday there even though many in the rest of the country didn't know much about it. But this is just really pissing off Trumptards despite not effecting their lives in the slightest, and their tears always taste nice too. I've never seen a bigger bunch of pussies that pretend to be tough. At least most liberals know that they're pussies.

Literally had never heard of this day until three days ago, but apparently it's been celebrated for 150 years and now we need to take off work. We live in the Twilight Zone. Edit- not to say the Emancipation Proc doesn't deserve to be recognized as a holiday, but it's just funny how this became a holiday overnight. I'm still trying to figure out Kwanza and Administrative Professionals Day. If they say no, just whip out your phone and start tweeting and before you hit send you’ll have it. And yes, someone where I work, who’s Indian and not even black, just played this card a few days ago. We’ve been trying to get rid of her for a year after a serious violation and have been phasing her out. Her last day is June 30 and now she’s pulling this shit because she’s being “marginalized as a person of color in these troubling times.” No, she was marginalized for having 3 subordinates make formal complaints against her which were thoroughly investigated and she was found to be at fault. I've never seen a bigger bunch of pussies that pretend to be tough. At least most liberals know that they're pussies. June 19th is the date because even though the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued two and a half years beforehand, it applied to slaves in the Confederacy and at the time in January of 1863 wasn't enforceable except on Confederate territory the Union had captured. It also didn't apply to slaves in the Union border states although most of them abolished slavery before the end of the Civil War with only Kentucky and Delaware holding out until the end. The date had significance because by then the Civil War was officially over and that date represented the implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation in the last area of the Confederacy where slaves were still held due to news traveling much slower back then and the people in Texas not knowing at the time that the Confederacy had surrendered. It led to commemoration and celebration on a mostly small basis that has increased quite a bit since the 1990s.

I had never heard of this day until I moved to Texas; not something people mention in SoCal I guess.

I first heard of it in the mid 1990s when a local celebration that had once been rather small started to grow in size and get media attention. The celebration by then was held in a city park and was along the lines of a fair with arts & crafts, food booths, some carnival stuff like bounce houses & and simple games aimed at kids, some merchants selling their wares, DJs playing music, and a few speakers.

It's never been a "holiday" here, just an unofficial observance.

One of the strongest earthquakes in Oklahoma in years hit last night just an hour after Trump's rally ended, and you people are prattling on about holidays? Don't you understand that God is pissed and he's coming to kill us all! Or at least that's what Trump/Pence would say if the same thing happened an hour after a gay rally.
