Do you think that the lockdowns / restrictions are helping in the fight against COVID? Have they gone too far? Could the same (or better) results have been obtained without sacrificing the economy?

The 10 PM curfew is stupid in my opinion There’s a degree of ‘make it look like we’re doing something’ but to be honest, I don’t know what I would do.

Sweden stuck to the science, and showed the world how to handle a minor pandemic: 1. Protect those at high risk. 2. Let the rest of the society get on with things. 3. Develop heard immunity in a matter of months. 4. Pandemic conquered. That's such a simple and straightforward solution -- proven by Sweden's success -- that I can only conclude global leaders don't want the pandemic conquered.

It's obviously very serious but it's the same as a lot of things. There are some people who ruin it for everyone else and we all have to suffer for it. There's no evidence that NPIs work, apart from the most draconian measures, and even then they can only delay the inevitable. Here's another mask chart for those of you that stubbornly refuse to accept that they're nothing more than voodoo science:

I can already tell you that we had very unseasonably warm weather up until last week. It was in the 70s for a couple of weeks there, and consistently warmer than in California.

Exactly. I'm not anti-mask by any means and probably as cautious as anyone, but that graph is an inverse curve to the weather and everything that comes along with cold temps.

Ah, point taken. We cooled off quickly here, and we had snow flurries in late October. That's a graph for New Jersey though. I didn't read clearly enough and assumed it was the US average.

The whole mask thing is stupid for one simple reason - the majority of mask wearers do not wear them consistently or correctly. The covering your mouth but not your nose imbeciles make me want to bludgeon them with ball bats. Fuck it all anymore

I had a college professor neighbor give me that same analogy a couple months ago. Every time I think our educated betters can't get any stupider, they up their game. srossi, was it unseasonably warm down your way in October? Upstate we had a brilliant warm spell after election day, although it's snowed here the past couple days, but October was fairly miserable, cool and rainy for much of the month.
