The Denver launch has been teased and rumored for about 10 years, so hipsters have been all over this. Some local outlets (like Westword.com) are asking folks to consider the pandemic struggle and visit local burger joints, rather than wait 12-14 hours. The Denver-based Good Times chain has had a "West Coast Burger" for a few years-- their take-off on In-n-Out. It's actually in a $5 combo and pretty good. When the Denver area got its first Krispy Kreme in late 2000 (actually in Highlands Ranch, about 20 miles south of downtown), there were insane lines for months. In 2001, some dipshit I worked with drove all the way down there, waited for over an hour, and back, in rush-hour traffic to get a box to impress our clients at a morning meeting. I remember the client said something like: "oh, I already ate and I prefer King Soopers donuts, anyways".

I had In and Out in Vegas last year for the first time and it was decent. Not 14 hours decent, but fine for fast food. I like Five Guys but it's a little pricey.

Rather than waiting 14 hours I think I'd drive to the nearest In-n-out and get some scenery. No idea where the nearest one to Colorado is. I've only had one once, I was impressed, but the best burger I've had is the Big Muddy at Sugarfire in St Louis. Just oozing in barbecue goodness.

I like Carl's Jr./Hardees and that's about it. I'd rather just buy food at the store. McDonald's sucks, but their fries and breakfast sausage biscuit are legendary.

Which is basically the in n out concept. Nothing is frozen and every location is supposed to be within a tractor trailers daily drive from the source materials to ensure freshness. I had In-n-Out in California a few years ago. It was fine, but nothing of legendary quality. Scarcity creates a mystique. When you couldn't get Coors east of the Mississippi, it had this huge cult following. People who went out west would come back with their trunks full of cases. President Ford had it shipped to the White House. "Smokey and The Bandit" was based around its scarcity and built up the mystique further. Eventually you could get Coors anywhere and the mystique died. It became just another beer. If In-n-Out was nationwide with every major market having dozens of them, locations off of the interstates, and small town locations, it would be just another fast food burger joint.

So are there any Five Guys on the West Coast? I've lived in California, Nevada, Idaho, and Oregon in the last 20 years and I can honestly say that I've never seen one before, let alone ate there.

Oven roasted salted peanuts in the shell are GREAT! I eat a 10oz. bag almost everyday.

If you go, order a small fries. They'll fill up the cup and then dump at least 2x that in the bag on top of it. Most times it's more than even my wife and I can eat together
