Would the McRib be such a big deal if it was available everywhere all the time? Rolling it out for a limited time and usually on a regional basis is a great way to keep the mystique going.

I can tell you from my first managing job ever (a Wendys) part of the company's plan was to 'rollout' a new sandwich every month or so and the individual stores annual budget were actually tied to it.



Example: lets say we have Tamalie's burger joint in Minnesota. Tamalie had a good year last year but the company expects year over year sales growth. 4% actually even though Tamalie was up over the prior year by 1.5%


A presentation is made in terms of each 'rollout' the prior year and what its sales impact was for the company and maybe even your region of the company but you also have to look at your individual store.

So for the fun of this exercise lets look at how Tamalie's burger joint did the first four months of the year and what the marketing promo was.


January - chicken parm sammich +5%February - some big double burger  sammich +4%March - fish sammich (Easter) -3%April - bacon cheeseburger thingie FLAT



So for 2021 lets say the marketing promo for January and February is the same. Easter is in April next year (lets say it was in March this past year)  so the fish sammich gets moved to April but in place of it for March they are putting in a rib sandwich.



Then  from there work your numbers so as to get to a 4% increase. It probably isn't coming in April because the fish sammich bombed at your location last year in March. The chicken parm did well last year and maybe you have some forgotten info (like the supplier couldnt keep the sauce or cheese around and your store could  have done even BETTER) that you consider.



And this why your burger joint has a new sandwich every month. They try to pick things that will 'provide a boost' without taking away from regular 'product mix' ....but if you kept it around all year, no boost, would just get lost on the menu.

If it didn't have the word 'Rib' in it, it wouldn't be a bad sandwich for Mickey D's. It's better than their shitty burgers. McDonald's is the WWE of fast food. The most successful company with the worst product. I do like the chicken sandwich, fries, and their breakfast menu though.
