We’ve finally joined the 21st century. If a dozen sexual harassment accusations was all that it took to get Cuomo to do his job and listen to the will of the people then I really wish women wouldn’t come forward about him 10 years ago. Cuomo’s tweet: “We have reached an agreement to legalize adult-use cannabis. Too many New Yorkers have been unfairly penalized for the use & sale of cannabis, arbitrarily arrested & jailed. That time is coming to an end. I look forward to signing this legislation into law.”

Good to see. The more States that come on board, the better. I don't use myself but it's long been ridiculous that usage is penalized to the extent it has been (and still is in a lot of places). The legal system is full enough as it is.

In reading the specs of the law, very disappointed to see that only smokable forms will be sold. I don’t smoke anything and that doesn’t even work on me, so I was really hope we’d get the edibles that I bought in Colorado. The taxes will also be crazy. I’m not convinced these half-hearted legalizations do much to curb black market sales. California’s legalization did nothing, but other states have really destroyed the black market.

It's the African American Market. You should know better. Next thing, you'll be calling it the Negro Market, I know your kind. Also, does this mean that local Key Foods, Associated Market, and C-Town will be selling weed?

I wish they made it law that ONLY edibles could be sold. I can't stand the smell of that shit. So, in Illinois, the big whine now is that all of the licenses to own and operate the dispensaries were sold to white, male entrepreneurs, so now "the man" is profiting off black people's addiction to weed. There were diversity goals set, but for whatever reason there's not one outfit with a majority owner of "color". Overall, this seems like a "moving the goal posts" type argument. The major win is that this will hopefully free up the court system slightly and give people a chance to clean up their records when interviewing for jobs, along with generating tax dollars for the state. It's hard to please everyone, I guess.

May or may not be an 'election issue' in 2024 We are in the middle of green-lighting the two 'sins' (sports betting and marijuana) and once the smoke clears from that ...... Think of all of the states that just had their hand out for money from the government. There's just not that much more you can 'tax'.

Oh, there's going to be a financial windfall for the state? Just like the windfalls that followed when states and municipalities heavily taxed cigarettes, made casino gambling legal, heavily taxed pop, etc. On top of being just dreadful people, most politicians are frighteningly stupid.

In the rest of the state, these offenses will be prosecuted. I am curious how this all works out: 1) The finances of Mosby and her husband are being investigated. If any wrongdoing is found, will she be removed from her job? 2) If prostitution is no longer prosecuted, will they continue to prosecute related offenses such as solicitation, running a house of ill repute (brothel), human trafficking, etc? Given the headlines that human trafficking has made over the past several years, I can't see them abandoning it as a crime. 3) It's not just weed, Mosby will not prosecute any drug possession or drug paraphernalia possession charges. Mosby has a point that police resources need to be refocused on violent crimes. I wonder what Baltimore will look like in 5 years under this new plan. Will it be a change for the better or for the worse?
