Is anyone here opposed to the legalization of marijuana?

It's less dangerous than booze.

Very in favor of legalizing it obviously.

don't smoke it, only tried it 2-3 times ever in my life, but legalize it and tax the shit out of it..maybe then they'll stop raising my property taxes...(won't happen, I know)..

Anyone that smokes it should fear legalizing it. Once that happens the government will take over all aspects of it (eventually), including growing and selling it themselves. You'll end up with really expensive, REALLY shitty pot.

When it was legal in Canada for medicinal purposes, I know most people that got it medicinally said it was awful. They eventually didn't bother with it and went back to their street connection.

Keep it illegal, the pot will be better and probably cheaper.

Perhaps legalization isn't the answer then, but we shouldn't be blowing billions of dollars on a war against pot. Maybe we need to return to the "blind eye" method. Didn't Denver, CO pass some city ordinance similar to this? I think they made small, personal amounts of pot okay to have. The city law was in conflict with state and federal laws, of course. Or was it a CO statewide law that conflicted with fed law? Either way, it's better than high-cost, low-return enforcement.

I don't think it will have too much affect on the drug dealers if they legalize. There's too much money on the table for all the drug dealers to stop selling it and it's way too easy to grow yourself too.
The only way I think they could stop the criminal aspect of it is to legalize it and the government start selling it really cheap and of great quality. Put the drug cartels out of business that way, by selling a superior and cheaper product.

I agree, but since it would be government getting involved the opposite would probably end up being true (shitty pot, inflated price).

Previously I was against it, based on knowing enough potheads to know that one CAN, real easily, ruin one's life with it.  While it may be less physically harmful than booze, it sure seems more likely to become a habit and WAY more likely to breed dumbfuck, unreliable behavior.

Which puts a drain on the economy.

That said, given the economy, legalize it AND prostitution and legislate and tax the ever living hell out of both.

Put the minimum security prisoners in the fields to farm the shit and don't give them any of the finished product.

If I get a chance, I need to go back and look for the paper I wrote in college on this very subject.  The numbers were overwhelmingly in support of it, but economists have vastly different views than the OSW Jesus Redneck Squad.

That may happen, but I have tons of friends that get it for medicinal purposes out in California, and it's some of the best shit I've ever smoked.

So, I think it'd be a great idea to legalize it and then as someone above said, tax the shit out of it.

That's not the fault of the drug, you breed a lazy stupid dumbfuck....you get one with or without the drug.

I know you said "CAN", and that's the keyword there.  But without pot, that "CAN" person is probably still not the most motivated and/or contributing person to society.

Here in CA, anything less than 1 oz for personal use is punishable as an infraction by fine only (you literally get a ticket and can mail in the fine).

And if you get a Drs. note (and there are whole clinics specializing in just these notes for roughly $50 after an "examination") you can openly buy medicinal marijuana or hashish at any one of roughly a million marijuana outlets in LA County alone.  And it is the highest quality most anesthetic stuff ever.....so I hear.

Financially. the business licenses for these outlets is very expensive and each transaction is taxed, so the County and State benefit.

I had to read that 3 times to make sure you werent calling me a stupid lazy dumbfuck LOL.  And I've never smoked pot.

That said, you do have a point.  My thought is though, I'd rather have a dumbfuck that can't get a gov't endorsed excuse for it and more of my taxpayer money.

same thing for me as i don't smoke it or have ever tried it.  legalize it and tax it too death. do the same thing with prostitution and it would probably help bring in an extra 30-40 billion dollars a year if it happened.
