Boston just signed C David Ross ( hit. 256 with 9 HR and 23 RBI last year with Atlanta ) to a 2 year deal for $ 6.2 million. That seems a bit high for a backup Catcher so maybe the Sox will now try to move last year's starting Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Why move Saltalamacchia? Didn't He hit 24 Hrs, or so last year for the Sox?
Yeah - but he only hit around .225 with a low OBP plus there are some concerns about how he handled the pitching staff last season. Add that to the fact that management is still high on Ryan Lavarnway who they feel needs to play more next season makes Salty a good candidate to be moved. Boston won't get much for him alone but I can see Boston adding him as part of a package to get a top 5 starter. However if Boston decides to try Lavarnway at 1st then I could see Salty sticking around.
Everything I read is that Lavarnway is worse defensively than Salty
Some people are born on third base but go through life thinking they hit a Triple- Barry Switzer.
