San Francisco Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro underwent back fusion surgery Sunday and will miss four-to-six months, the team announced Monday.

Scutaro, 39, is set to make $6.66 million in 2015 and there's speculation the injury could end his career. The veteran was limited to only five games due to recurring back problems.

Scutaro was part of the 2012 Giants squad that achieved World Series glory and was named the National League Championship Series MVP during the titile run.

Scutaro, who can also play shortstop and third base, boasts a .277/.341/.388 career slash line.
