New York Mets prospect L.J. Mazzilli has received a 50-game suspension after his second violation of Major League Baseball's drug policy.

The suspension is without pay and was triggered by a second positive test for a drug of abuse, according to a statement released by the commissioner's office.

Mazzilli's positive test violated terms of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the league said.

The second-base prospect was the Mets' fourth-round pick in the 2013 draft, and hit .301 with 11 homers, 29 doubles and 14 stolen bases across three levels last season.

Mazilli, who is currently on the roster of the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League, is scheduled to begin his suspension at the start of the 2015 season.

He is the son of former major-league player and manager Lee Mazzilli.
