Although she was born in Australia, neither her mom nor I are Australian citizens. I'm Canadian and her mom is American. We're here in Australia on temporary visas. We love it here and would like to stay, but it's going to take a few years for all of us to upgrade our status to permanent residents / citizens. In the meantime, we choose to give the little girl an American passport, so she's a Yankee. Just don't call her that in front of her mom - she's from Boston and they don't like the Yankees.
