Prior to 1971 the major tag team title defended in the territory was known as the International Tag Team title or (going back earlier) the US Tag Team title.
At one point (1967) Bruno Sammartino was both the WWWF World Champion and a co-holder of the US Tag Team title but had to vacate the tag team title because he could not defend both championships.
