Down to their last transaction, the Boston Red Sox are honoring David Ortiz.

The club picked up the slugger's $17.2-million club option Thursday, despite the fact that he's expected to announce his retirement this offseason.

In his final season in the majors, to say the 40-year-old went out with a bang would be an understatement. Ortiz mashed his way to a .315/.401/.620 slash line to go with a career-high 1.021 OPS.

He also finished with 38 homers, 48 doubles, and 127 RBIs en route to his 10th All-Star selection.
