The Major League Baseball Players Association announced Friday its six finalists for the 2016 Comeback Player of the Year award for both the National and American Leagues.

Late Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez headlines the top three candidates in the NL, and is the likely favorite. Also vying for the award are Los Angeles Dodgers starter Rich Hill and Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Jean Segura.

Fernandez was one of the most dominant pitchers in the NL this season, posting a 2.86 ERA and a 16-8 record before his death in a boating accident Sept. 25.

Baltimore Orioles slugger Mark Trumbo will compete with Texas Rangers duo Yu Darvish and Ian Desmond for the AL award. Trumbo led all of MLB with 47 home runs in 2016, making him the odds-on favorite for the prize.

The Players Choice Awards ceremony will take place Nov. 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET on MLB Network.
