The Boston Red Sox will have to try to hang on to the division without their clubhouse leader.

Dustin Pedroia was placed back on the 10-day disabled list Saturday due to left knee inflammation - the second time he's been on the DL this week.

The second baseman has battled knee issues this season and has appeared in just one game this month. Pedroia was originally placed on the DL on Aug. 1. He'd been reinstated earlier this week, only to play one game at designated hitter before the inflammation returned.

"We've got to try to find a way to manage it and get through it," Pedroia told reporters Saturday, according to Tim Britton of the Providence Journal.

Red Sox manager John Farrell acknowledged Friday that a DL trip was a possibility for Pedroia, as the team continues to be cautious with the 33-year-old.

Pedroia has enjoyed another strong season when he's been healthy enough to get on the field. The four-time All-Star is hitting .303/.378/.406 with six home runs and 17 doubles in 86 games. In his absence, it's likely Eduardo Nunez will receive the bulk of the reps at second base.
