The former AL MVP drilled a Chris Sale slider over the Green Monster to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox in the top of the first inning. It was the first time this season that Sale has relinquished a single run to the Blue Jays over 22 innings pitched across three starts. The dinger is Donaldson's 15th first-inning home run in 2017. He's hit 32 altogether, meaning only 17 bombs from innings two through extras. Sale, likely unhappy about the long ball, managed to record all three outs of the inning by way of strikeout.
