Who remembers “Smokin” Joe Charboneau of Cleveland Indians fame and folklore?

Charboneau was the baseball prophet sent to the Cleveland Indians to lead them to the Promised Land in 1980.  He boomed onto the scene with his play on the field and his crazy and zaniness off the field.   Charboneau became the AL Rookie of the Year.

In 1981, it seems Charboneau came crashing down to reality.  He became and in some circles still is the grand poster-child for the fabled Sophomore Jinx.  He holds re it’s for fewest games played by a Rookie of the Year (201).
Charboneau was riddled with arguments with coaches, barroom fights and injuries from the time he was drafted by Minnesota until he exited out of the Major Leagues.
