Citizen of nowhere
|The clip of Elias getting huge heat in Seattle last night has been getting some coverage today. I know nothing of and care nothing for basketball, so this was completely lost on me and anyone else who doesn't follow the NBA. I doubt anyone that anyone who isn't from Seattle was particularly moved by the comment, even if they do follow the NBA.
WWE has a worldwide audience, so I never understand the desire to get a reaction by mentioning local sports teams. It comes off like a big inside joke that I'm not in on, and I'm sure that's not the desired effect. It makes for awful television.
Kurt Angle was particularly guilty of this when he first turned heel, and I hated it as much then as I do now.
Heel Roddy Piper in 1998-99 might be the worst example:
"Springfield.... home of the Browneyes...." *huge crowd cheer*
"very specific shade thrown on the Browneyes and their star middle-back" *huge crowd boo*
repeat every week
