The AWA didn't have much, so they kept the teams together and frankly waited too long to switch the tag straps. By the 1/27/87 title switch, it was too late. Some of the excitement of the Midnight Rockers winning the belts was dulled by a feeling of people wondering why it took so long. Then they had Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty as champs and no one for them to work with. There wasn't a ready to go heel team to be the top contenders to them.
