The designation "No. 1 record" applies to the Billboard Hot 100, which has been the standard for decades. Being No. 1 on the R & B chart is like being No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart. It's competition limited to a particular genre of music.
Kind of like the difference between an "All-America" football player and a Small College All-America football player.
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. However, they still went to the top of the charts even if it was "only" a sub-genre. Maybe they could get the band back together and try to get on top of the white mans chart :cool::tongue:
