Fred Hoiberg was on thin ice as Bulls coach for a while. I think he's much more cut out to be college coach even though the attraction of the NBA to him is obvious due to the money being bigger in the NBA, the spotlight shining brighter, and it often being easier to coach grown men rather than late teens/early twenties guys despite the egos and the problems all that money can cause players.

When the Indiana job opened up in the spring of 2017 with the departure of Tom Crean, Hoiberg should have hopped in his car and driven to Bloomington in order to present himself as a candidate for the IU job. Based on his performance at Iowa State, I think it would have been a perfect fit and he ought to watch for other NCAA posts of note.

However, if Hoiberg sees the NBA as his future and he's still on the job market by then, don't bet against him eventually becoming head coach of the Timberwolves after Tom Thibodeau goes. Hoiberg played two seasons for the team and then went into the front office before leaving for the Iowa State job. Twolves owner Glen Taylor tends to go back to people he likes and it's said he'd be very comfortable giving the reigns to The Mayor if the opportunity ever came up.
