If by scrubbing old shows, you mean editing, I don't think that is the case in the purest sense for the most part although he did wind up taking out the rant on Wendy Williams the other week which I heard live and was frankly surprised at given that it was out of character for the show these days.

Once the West Coast morning drive time feed and the Wrap Up show end on Howard 101, they play Sternthology which is old clips, that usually have some sort of common theme like previous appearances of guests from that week, staff fights, listener picks, stuff with Ronnie or JD, phony phone calls, and so on. They never air complete shows, just segments and sometimes they fast forward ahead, complete with fast forwarding sound effects, to move along in the segment if there was a down moment or an ad break. So if there is something they don't want to play, they don't need to take out a bunch of stuff from the third Wednesday in March of 1996. If they don't want to play it, they just don't.

One thing that doesn't happen as much, possibly at all, is that when the show isn't live, they used to air as filler "Today In Howard History" where they'd run an old show from the date from years earlier. A lot of stuff from the 1990s and early 2000s made it on the air that way, and there were even some 1980s shows. Now the old shows tend to be from within the past year or so. This ties back to the fact that they don't need to edit out stuff from old shows. They just don't play them.
