|I am in a city that for MLB and the NBA isn't in a position to get any outside players of note under most circumstances and would only be in a position sign free agents of superstar status if the team was already a contender and someone was climbing aboard the bandwagon to get a ring. This is a desirable NHL market for a lot of free agents and in the NFL the players have not concentrated on markets yet to the extent that it has the same sort of bearing it does in MLB and the NBA.
So free agency can be a drag because the Twins will pay to keep their own stars but can also lose guys and normally can't bring them in while the Twolves are destined to likely lose any player of note they develop. However, the reserve clause and the later use of compensation packages of picks and/or players that were so punitive to the teams signing players that it suppressed the market were unfair to players on any level.
