I've spent a lot of time watching Randy Savage promos from his 1985 arrival in the WWF until just before he officially turned babyface in the fall of 1987. Some of these were house show promos. Others were generic promos that were sent to markets not getting house shows during a particular timeframe or were used as filler on Prime Time Wrestling and All American Wrestling. Mean Gene held the microphone for most of these. It is amazing to see Savage take the premise of say a match against Tito Santana in Boston or Detroit or wherever and then build an entertaining promo around it. Mean Gene gets some deserved criticism for being too much of a ham and getting himself over more than the talent, but he was great at the interplay with the Macho Man. It's a pipe dream, but I'd love to see this kind of promo interview make a return so the current talent could have a better shot at getting over as personalities. There was one in particular from mid 1986 with Savage and Jake Roberts cutting a promo together for no apparent reason that made me want to have seen a long term tag team of the two. Savage was great and Jake was on an entirely different level.
