Ok so they just announced the actual candidates today.
  • Pat Benatar
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • Depeche Mode
  • The Doobie Brothers
  • Whitney Houston
  • Judas Priest
  • Kraftwerk
  • MC5
  • Motörhead
  • Nine Inch Nails
  • The Notorious B.I.G.
  • Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
  • Todd Rundgren
  • Soundgarden
  • T.Rex
  • Thin Lizzy
To me, Thin Lizzy tops this list. Followed by Motorhead and Todd Rundgren. With Todd it's more for his producing. Lizzy for their incredible array of studio albums. Motorhead for longevity and unique sound.
An honorable mention goes to Rufus and Chaka Khan who was one of the very best bands I've seen live.
